My Family Update

My kids with their amazing Aunt

I just wanted to give you a quick update on my sister-in-law Thais.

As I wrote here, last summer, Thais, a breast cancer survivor of nearly nine years, now has stage four, aggressive bone cancer.

She has been hospitalized for bone breaks and fractures. She has lost several inches off her stature due to the compressing of her bone, which I am told are the consistency of rice crispies.

Through it all, her attitude and faith in God is amazing.

This weekend, she was taken by ambulance and hospitalized. The radiation that was recently done to two breaks in her pelvis has “cooked” her intestines, leaving her unable to digest food. I would appreciate your prayers for her.

Saturday, our daughter drove 13 hours from her home in North Carolina, along with my friend Lysa’s daughter, to come see Thais. It really perked her spirits. They head back today.

This is a very difficult time for our family. I just want to shut down life drive the hour and a half to her and just sit at her side.

But she wants me to keep going; to keep telling people to love God and others with all of their hearts, because things don’t matter. People do.

So, please, make that call today.

Say I love you.

Or I miss you.

Or you mean the world to me.

Or I am sorry.

What will you do with the time that’s left?

I appreciate all of the prayer and well wishes. I’ll keep you posted on her progress.

  1. You are in my prayers, I lost my mom to breast cancer a few years ago and still miss her. The holidays are the toughest, hang in there….

  2. Oh, Karen, I do understand. My sweet sister-in-law died August 22nd this year at age 43 of kidney cancer that spread to her bones as well. The holidays are going to be hard because Marla loved all the family stuff so much. I also lived 1 1/2 hours from MY sis-in-law. They are so special, aren’t they? Praying that these days will be filled with more laughter and joy than tears and sadness!

  3. Continued prayers for your family. These feelings are amplified by the holidays because you ALL want to be together, healthy, happy and whole. (((((((((((((((((((((((((Karen)))))))))))))))))))))) that is my cyber hug to you (you are right in the middle!). Allison

  7. Karen, you are ALL in my prayers. Life can be very trying and wearing on us but my God is in control and he is with your sister n law every step of the way. He knows your pain and suffering and fears. I pray whatever he allows will be quick and gentle. I pray your holidays will be the best memory maker you have ever had. You are all in his hands and in his heart. Lots of love from Douglas, Ga…and your friends and sisters in the Lord from Eastside Baptist Church.
