Okay…..so nothing earthy shaking is on my mind to post today. Can I just air a pet peeve???

Ahem…my dear family—especially my offspring—would you STOP speaking in pronouns?!?!?!

“Hey mom….what is this?” (spoken to me from around the corner. I cannot see what you are holding in your hand, sweet child. TELL me what this is!!!)

“Moooom…..who put that there?” (What where? I do not have eyes in the back of my head!!! Use a real word. A noun or two perhaps. Like…”Who put my baseball glove on the coffee table?”)

“Hey…he cannot do that. Tell him to stop!” (Again spoken from a room away. Which him is him? What in tarnation is HE doing?)

Please….you children are killing me here. Contrary to popular belief, we moms cannot see all and know all. That is God’s job.

STOP using pronouns please!!!!

Rant over.

Pronoun-protesting blessings,

Her

(See—isn’t that annoying. It should say Karen, not HER!!!)

  1. How funny! My husband and I are retired, and he calls from another room, “What is this in here?” Too old to “retrain”him, just get up and see what he’s talking about. (I count steps as part of my exercise,so this adds up!)

  2. Oh how I remember those days????. My children are grown now with babies of their own. Cherish these times, it gives us all something to smile about. God in His infinite wisdom keeps us connected with similar experiences!

  3. Have you been listening to me at my house!? I have said these same things to my childern! I use the phrase “No pronouns, darling! No pronouns!” in my best Edna Mode (The Incredibles) impersonation. They groan, then laugh! I wait until they rephrase to respond with anything else :) It’s funny and I find they are using fewer pronouns!

  4. I know exactly how you feel! My kids also do it while I am driving and they are sitting in the backseat. It makes me crazy too!

    1. My three year old grandson is Mr. Pronoun! I told him, “I’m driving and can’t look, can you tell me exactly what you’re talking about.” Too funny. Thanks for sharing.

  5. Karen, thank you for the funny post today…I have been having a week and your post sure brought a nice much needed smile to my face. Praying that you have a wonderful weekend and Detroit can get back in the series!

    Smiles & Blessings,
    Robin :)

  6. Oh my goodness! I thought I was the only one . . .
Before he passed away, if I were driving my husband would tell me to turn THIS way or THAT way or THERE. I never knew what any of those things meant and I almost always got it wrong. Of course today I wouldn’t trade those memories for anything!

  7. LOL! With the kids having yesterday and today off of school, this is incredibly timely. I’ve already heard, “Can I eat this?” “Can I have that?” “Can we go there?” “Come see this!” My favorite though, is how often they use the word “thing”. “Hey, Mom, you know that thing, with the thing on it…” But with only 2 children and one of each, I KNOW who the he/she is! : )
