Once upon a time, I was a young mom who needed a few ideas and a lot of encouragement.

I wanted so badly to be a good mom. I’d been raised by a wonderful mom so I thought somehow it would just come naturally. That it was in my blood.

Although I loved my toddler and newborn immensely, I sometimes came up against issues and situations where I wasn’t sure what to do. So, I could ask my mom. Or a friend who was a mom. But still, I had so many other questions that were about specific things they had no experience with. And I deeply desired ideas for both raising and loving my kids. And I also wanted advice for keeping my marriage healthy during this often exhausting stage.

One day a friend handed me a mothering magazine.  In the back was a blurb about a conference just for moms. There were going to be all sorts of workshops on mothering, marriage, and even fun things like decorating or cooking. I saw that this conference was just about 5 hours from my home. So, I registered and my little family of four trekked off to Bloomington-Normal, IL. I attended the conference all alone while my hubby and the kids hung out at the hotel and came to the event a few times during the day so I could nurse baby Mitchell.

It was one of the best decisions I ever made!

That was 20 years ago next month. Hearts at Home is still going strong. The 2015 National conference is coming up March 13-14th. The founder Jill Savage will be there. And keynotes Lysa Terkeurst of my own Proverbs 31 Ministries and Dr. Gary Chapman the author of The Five Love Languages. I’ll be teaching three workshops and will also be part of the optional Mom’s Night Out Friday featuring the hilarious Ken Davis. And some awesome workshop presenters will be there including Glynnis Whitwer of Proverbs 31, Ruth Schwenk from The Better Mom, Courtney Joseph from Women Living Well, Arlene Pellicane, Dr Juli Slattery, Dannah Gresh, Dr. Kathy Koch and more!

My husband and I are giving away two conference registrations–one for a blog reader and one for her to give to a friend. It will include the conference fee and also tickets for Moms Night Out for both moms–a value of $226. (travel to the conference and hotel accomedations are not included)

So…….leave a comment with who you would take to the conference if you were chosen and why. {PLEASE be sure that you only comment if you are available to go that weekend and can swing the travel and hotel costs.}

Winner announced Saturday at 5 pm.

NOTE: Hearts at Home is offering the “Best Value” registration price through Sunday that includes lunch. On Monday the price will return to normal and will not include lunch.

  1. I have never been and would love to go…I have three girls 11, 16 and 18 and even though they are older the parenting isn’t done and now it seems more complex. I’d take one of my best friends with two young kids because is wish I would have started going back when my girls were little!

  2. I would love a chance to recharge as a mom of 4 at home and I would bring a friend who has 3 beautiful children and is also in need of recharging as she is suffering from postpartum depression and a stomach illness. I think it would be such a blessing to hear from all of the wonderful speakers. God bless you in giving others this opportunity!

  3. I would bring my friend that has to boys one 6 and one 2 1/2. She deserves to have a mom time out more than any person I could imagine. She is so devoted to her kids and is a stay at home mom…she also takes care of others and does a lot to keep our church running….I cant imagine listing all that she does….I think she deserves to take some time to herself….this conference would be perfect!

  4. I would bring my sister in law. We went a couple years ago when you did a Let It Go session. It would be incredible to be able to go again!

  5. I’m already registered-haven’t missed it the past 4 years. I do have a mom friend who, for financial reasons can’t make it this year. One of her twins have Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis, and the treatment is expensive, even after the insurance picks up their part.

Financially it would help me as we have just moved but have not sold our old house. So we are paying for 2 households :( Praying it sells soon! It’s been on the market over 100 days :(

  6. I would totally bring my best Mom Friend Londa – we could SO use a weekend away at Hearts at Home -thank you for the oppty!

  7. Just this week I started reading Jill’s book, “Real Moms, Real Jesus.” Up until this read I knew very little of Jill and her ministry. Needless to say I’ve spent some time on her website and have thoroughly enjoyed her insight and encouragement. I can only imagine what it would be like to attend a Hearts at Home conference! If I won, I’d first ask my friend, Amanda to go with me and if she couldn’t go, I’d ask my friend Veronica. The list continues, but I won’t bore you with that. Looking forward to seeing who the winner is on Saturday!! Thanks :)

  8. I would bring my girlfriend Cristi…she and I both really get a lot out of Hearts at Home. She is such a great person!

  9. I would take my sister in law as she is soon to be a mother of two and we get along so well. God not only gave my brother a lovely wife I gained an awesome sister as well!

  10. If the conference is in the Midwest I will give the tickets to the other Deena Burnham to share with her daughter Lacy who live in MI. I live in Northern CA.

  11. I’d take my sister. It would be a great time for us to get away and come back refreshed to handle all that life, husbands, and children throw our way. I can’t think of anyone else I’d rather spend that time with then her.

  12. I’d bring my friend and pastor’s wife, Rachel, who is also a young mom with 2 little ones. She’s very real about her mom struggles and is always encouraging me with prayer and support and I know she would love this conference as much as I would!

  13. I would bring one of my best friends. We don’t get to see eachother very often due to busy schedules and kids. It would be a great way to catch up and also have a great weekend with a refresher course on how to be good Christian moms.

  14. I would love the opportunity to attend the conference because I am always seeking alternate ways to achieve amazing family dynamics. I love being a mom and feel that role is one in which I was choosen for. I have two children in college and an eighth grader and a fifth grader. My marriage is sometimes a little unbalanced with my focus always being on being a mother and having a job that meets there schedule at a high school. My husband is very successful but constantly goes in a different direction. I recently met a wonderful woman who home schools her three boys and has a handicap as well. She needs her wheelchair most of the time. I was amazed at her positive attitude and feel God placed her in my life for a reason. I would like to bring her. She lives in Chicago and I would so appreciate the opportunity to bring her.

  15. I have been having a heart craving for teachings. I have been going through video series (both your’s and Lysa’s)… buying them and also watching filmed conferences or series on YouTube by many of the wonderful ladies on the conference/book circuit. Haha… that is actually what I will be doing today. Reading and watching video series to fill my heart & soul. I would love to take my daughter or bestie… both are pregnant and would be a wonderful experience for the heart, mind and soul.

  16. I have never been to a conference and would love yo bring my sis in law. We both are mothers to a rambunctious set of boys! Much needed refresher!

  17. I would bring my friend, Alicia. My husband and I just met her and her husband last year. They’re much younger than us, so when my husband said we were mentoring them, I was pleasantly surprised. We haven’t had another Christian couple we are close with for a long time, and it’s the first couple we’ve mentored, so it’s been a wonderful new friendship.

  18. I would bring my friend who was adopted and was placed in multiple foster homes. I want her to have exposure to what a real mother looks like that God expects her to be.

By the way, I know I can do the November one on MN. :)

  19. I would love to go to Hearts at Home again! It has been many years since I’ve attended. The last time, my children were in early elementary school and we lived in two states before this one! Now, my kids are in middle school/high school. I have such a different role as a parent now. I would love to attend and hear some encouragement for this season in our lives. If chosen, I would take my sister. She has only attended once with me. Like myself, her children were young and are now in the teen years. We live 3 hours apart and this would be a great way for us to share in our sisterhood and parenting. (I could also celebrate my birthday with her that weekend!) Thanks for the chance!
