Now for our regular post……

Love is in the air…….and roses…..and chocolate….and fancy dinners out. It is Valentines Week!

I have always adored Valentines Day; elementary school class parties with endless homemade, paper Valentines; high school dances (and a special singing Valentine delivered to me during fifth hour once by a barbershop quartet) and most of all many February 14th’s with my college sweetheart-turned-hubby whom I am  celebrating with for the 27th year in a row.

My posts this week will be short and sweet (pun intended). I simply want to introduce you to four wonderful books on marriage written by some friends of mine. One book, along with some other goodies, will be given away each day (except for Weight Loss Wednesday when I’ll offer a different, fun giveaway) The featured books will be by  her, and her and him.

At the end of each post, I’ll ask you all a simple question. Click on the comment form and leave a short answer to the question and you’ll be entered in the random drawing. This will be fun! Here we go:

Chitwood header7We’ll start (and end) the week with my friend, Proverbs 31 speaking team sister, and Kenz’s current “other mother” Melanie Chitwood. Kenz began her year living in Charlotte with my P31 sister Wendy Blight, but due to Wendy’s daughter having major surgery and a great deal going on in their home, requiring their bonus room back, (Kenz’s home-away-from-home) she was taken in by Melanie, her hubby Scott and their two boys–who are the exact same ages as Kenz’s biological brothers!

Today, Melanie is giving away a signed copy of her book, What A Husband Needs from His Wife. I’ll throw in a $5.00 Starbucks card so the winner can steal away for a mug of something hot and delicious to sip on while she reads.

WhatAHusband

What do men really need from their wives? And what is the best way for wives to meet those needs? This engaging and thoroughly biblical guide demonstrates that a woman meets her husband’s needs most effectively by maintaining her own vibrant personal relationship with Christ. Filled with useful tools that will help women understand their husbands better, this enlightening resource includes…

Readers will also find useful tools for understanding their husbands better, including
- Ideas for dealing with addictions, infidelity, and financial challenges
- Explanations of personality types and love languages
- Resources that offer help for the helper

Each chapter ends with a list of focus points that summarize the chapter’s most important thoughts in an easy to remember format, as well as a concluding prayer that provides readers an opportunity to interact with God about what they have learned. A study guide at the end of the book makes this a perfect tool for individual or small group use.

Trust me ladies…..this is a wonderful, honest, and helpful book. Just like the gal who wrote it!

Now, to be entered in today’s giveaway, leave a comment answering this simple Valentines Day question:

What is your favorite candy (current or retro)? Peanut Butter Cups? Sweet-tarts? Mary Janes? Pixie Stix? Zagnut bars? Sprees? Plain milk chocolate? Hard, sour candies like Jolly Ranchers?

Mine is anything with coconut and dark chocolate combined; from a simple grocery store Mounds Bar to a fancy handmade, dark-chocolate dipped macaroon. Or, a retro favorite (one I remember riding to the Quik Pik corner store to get—-on my purple Schwinn bike with the banana seat and white, flowered basket of course) is Charms Sweet and Sour swirl pops.

How about you?

Candy-coated blessings,

Share and Enjoy!

    • Kim Allen says:

My very favorite candy is a mix of chocolate and carmel but specifically a Zero bar. Sometimes they are hard to find—but it’s a white chocolate on the outside and a carmel nougat on the inside. I don’t eat them often, but when I find one it’s always a very special treat!!!

    • Michelle Vienna, VA says:

Chocolate and peanuts, chocolate and raisins, chocolate and …anything, but I really love a Take 5 bar with chocolate, caramel and pretzels—sweet, salty and crunchy!

    • Gina McCann says:

My favorite is the ole Pay-Day candy bar, yum!!

    • Loretta says:

Anything with milk chocolate, not the dark chocolate that is so good for you but the other stuff that probably has no redeeming value other than that it tastes so good. Chocolate covered pretzels or potato chips from Hoffman’s Chocolates are up there big time. So totally fattening but nice once in a great while.

    • Cindy in PA says:

My favorite currently is Hot Tamales! In fact at the grocery store the other day, the cashier said, “I remember you. You love Hot Tamales!” A bit embarrassing. Ha!

    • Kaylee Hanson says:

i have two favorite types of candy: one being anything chocolate and mint, the other being anything chocolate and peanut butter – peanut butter M&M’s and my husband’s grandma’s homemade peanut butter cups are the best!

    • Shannon says:

I love Payday candy bars and Almond Joys also. I also love fireballs and apple or watermelon jolly ranchers.

    • Erin says:

Oh my goodness I love almost anything chocolate– chocolate and caramel, chocolate and peanut butter, milk chocolate . . .

right now I think I might give my left big toe for a Dove milk chocolate bar. mmmmmmmm

    • Stephenie says:

M&Ms are my grocery store favorite. I love chocolate covered marshmallows, too.

    • shannon says:

hmmmmmmmm favorite candy? I would have to go with chocolate and coconut also! Or a creamy milk chocolate for sure!!!

      Shannon

    • Sherry says:

My favorite is anything dark chocolate! But around Valentine’s Day I always get a hankering for cinnamon hearts too.

I’d love a copy of this book!
      Sherry

    • Tera says:

      Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups…yummy!

    • Jen says:

Sweedish Fish! But it has to be the real ones, not just fish gummies. I’m not this picky in other areas, but when it comes to my candy it’s got to be the right ones. I don’t even know if they are really from Sweeden – probably not :)

    • Shelley says:

Lindor Truffles…..mmmmmmmm……….the ones with the red wrapper.

    • Kimberly S. says:

My favorite childhood candy is “Fun Dip,” except my sisters and I would down the powdery candy portion and then enjoy eating the stick on its own. Yes, quite childlike and enjoyable. My favorite adulthood candy is just pure chocolate. Plain and simple.

    • Jessica Shepard says:

I pretty much like all milk chocolate but there’s just something about the Whitman Samplers that speaks to the little girl in me. I love the surprise of biting into them and finding out which delight will explode in your mouth. You may not always like that flavor, but it’s always a treat to discover what it is!

    • Country Mom says:

My favorite candy has to be Reese Peanut Butter Cups.

    • EaglesWings says:

my favorite current : snickers bars…
retro I have to say Hot Tomales :-)

    • Michele says:

My favorite candy would have to be chocolate and coconut, with maybe some nuts thrown in. I love Almond Joy. But I also like truffles. I just like chocolate!!

Reese’s Peanut Butter cups are really good, too!!

    • Melissa Reynolds says:

What is not my favorite! Probably accounts for my ongoing weightloss struggle! :) I love, love Caramello, Cadburry Mini Eggs and Reese Cups! Not much, right?

    • Sarah Read says:

I think I never grew up because I adore Pop Rocks! To have them explode in your mouth as you are tasting fun, fruity flavors. Totally Delightful!

    • Rebecca says:

It’s nothing exciting, but I do think my favorite candy is Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and Smarties. I base this on the fact that when I rifle through my kids’ Halloween candy, that’s what I’m always looking for!

    • Faith says:

Godiva Chocolate! However, on any given day, since that is not available, Dove Dark Chocolate:)

    • Melanie says:

Favorite Candy? Honestly, there is not enough space for me to type all that is good out there in the grocery stores nowadays. Anything chocolate (not dark chocolate) seems to be a hit with me.

Around “that time of the month” my husband came home with a 2 lbs bag of Peanut M&M’s, courtesy of Sam’s Club over his lunch hour, saying “I knew that you might be needing this soon.” What an insightful husband!!!

    • Phyllis says:

I think may favorite candy would actually be Jelly Belly jelly beans. Specifically, buttered popcorn or pomegranate. Don’t get me wrong, I love chocolate…but fresh Jelly Bellies are the best!

    • Jill says:

My favorite is ANYTHING chocolate. . . I’m so bad that if I don’t have anything else, I’ll resort to chocolate chips with pretzels in a bowl. . . YUMMY, but I digress. Retro-wise- I’ve always loved “Lolly’s”. . . you know , the sugar on a stick. I’m thrilled when they have them at the baseball shack, and I have an extra quarter. LOVE ‘EM! :o )

    • Bev McDougal says:

Dark chocolate covered coffee beans-”Buzz-Beans” Lots of anti-oxidants-who says candy isn’t healthful;)

    • judy says:

Mine has got to be Fannie May mint melt-aways — the brown ones, not the green coated ones.

    • jerikay says:

my favorite(s) peanut & peanut butter m&ms, milk duds, snickers, butterfinger … anything really that combines peanuts or caramel & chocolate =)

    • Tatum says:

My favorite Valentine’s treat is any sort of combo that has chocolate and raspberry..yummy!

    • Cheryl says:

Such a dilemma. Too many favorites. What I cannot buy unless I’m willing to eat the entire bag are Bulls-eye caramels. When that cream-filled center hits that chewy caramel I can’t help but close my eyes in ectasy(sp).

For road trips I love Hot Tamales. They keep you awake and don’t melt in the car if you are traveling during warmer months.

As my husband likes to say “I’m a crap-candy junkie” Twizzlers, Laffy Taffy, Now and Laters, gummy anything, spree, etc.

    • Jodie says:

My favorite candy is Russell Stover’s French Mints. I don’t get them very often, but I do enjoy them.

Sure would love the opportunity to win the book! :)

      Blessings,
      Pearls

Great Post. I would love this helpful book….

My favorite candy is typically KitKat or Twix… I love almost anything chocolate, crunchy and caramel is a plus too.

      Thanks!
      Marcia

Hershey’s Milk Chocolate with Almonds……… Definitely my favorite. But sometimes… anything chocolate will do.

    • Irene says:

My favorite candy is Lindor Dark Chocolate Truffles…hands down the best!!!
