Less than three weeks until Thanksgiving!

Doesn’t that turn your bonnet inside out? Fear not! Here is a yummy and simple recipe to take to a gathering. It will draw rave reviews!

And, found some great clearance items last year for Thanksgiving so I can give one of you who comments a kitchen-themed giveaway. (Don’t worry, I bought the chocolate-covered cranberries this year!)

First, the recipe:

Pumpkin Dip

Mix:

Two blocks cream cheese, softened

4 C. powdered sugar

Add in:

30 ounces canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie mix)

2 t. cinnamon

1 t. ginger

Place in a small pie pumpkin (not a jack-o-lantern pumpkin) that has had the top cut off and been hollowed out. Serve with gingersnaps. Can also serve with apple slices, graham crackers or vanilla wafers, but the gingersnaps are the best.

Now for the giveaway:

It includes:

~ A kitchen apron in a lovely shade of pumpkin

~ A Baking Made Simple cookbook

~ A Paula Deen To-Do list magnetic pad

~Some chocolate-covered cranberries

~ A nostalgic, hand-stitched sign that  hangs on the wall or has a little stand to sit on a desk or mantle. It reads:  We give thanks for unknown blessings already on their way.

Leave us a comment with your Thanksgiving plans. Are you hosting? Traveling? Serving in a soup kitchen?

One winner will be chosen randomly and announced Monday.

Have a blessed weekend!

Share and Enjoy!

    • Tricia says:

I have been hosting for a few years, but this year my grandmother is in a nursing home and we are taking her to a restaurant. (No cooking and no dishes. :) )

    • Amy says:

We’re traveling. We swap out and visit each set of parents on alternate years, and this year it’s my turn to travel to my family. My grandmother and aunt will be there, too. Yay!

      Such a pretty apron!

    • We are going to my twin sister’s house to celebrate their 1st Thanksgiving with their baby girl! Love the pumpkin dip recipe! I will be trying it very soon!

    • Leigh Fant says:

I will be going to my mom’s house!

    • Joyce says:

Traveling to my in-laws and can’t wait! We have so much fun together. We go every year and my sister-in-love, niece, and I do all the cooking, and my mother-in-love supervises. We laugh a lot and just enjoy being together, especially since due to distance we only see each other 3-5 times a year.

    • Anne Marie says:

I’m hosting! I love having everyone come to my house to relax and enjoy the holiday. We’ll have around 30 people, and my three sisters, mom and I will share in the cooking duties. It takes about two days of cooking but it’s so fun and so worth it.

    • Niki Palmer says:

If we cook…they will come. We are expecting family. My daughter will hopefully make it home from college 5 states away, in-laws, grandparents, siblings, and anyone else who hasn’t a place to eat is welcome. Last year we enjoyed many last minute guests. We love to cook, bake and especially share!

    • Faith says:

Oh I am so excited! We were facing our first Thanksgiving in a different state from our families, but my sister-in-law, her husband, and three children ages 4 to 8 are coming to spend it with us! With my near 3 yr old and 6 year old, we will have SO MUCH FUN! It will be chaotic but perfect and I cannot wait! We will cook traditionally I am sure, and my sis-n-law and I have grand “Black Friday” plans:)

    • natasha says:

I live in Canada (not sure if I can be in this giveaway) and we already had Thanksgiving! I enjoy making pies — so that’s what I contributed to a family meal with 45 people present. We went on a hayride on a beautiful tree-lined narrow gravel road. It was amazing — as God’s creation is!

    • Wendy says:

What a neat give away. I love to cook Thanksgiving!! Every year we invite other friends whose families live far away over but no one has yet to take is up on our offer. So it will probably be just the 4 of us. But still will be an enjoyable blessed day!

    • cindy b. says:

staying in town – assuming we’ll be at my in-law’s house – just don’t know which one (they are in the process of moving).

thanks for the recipe – looks yummy!

    • Katherine says:

We are most likely traveling to my parents’ about an hour away, and bringing something with us. Really looking forward to my dad’s apple pie! :) We usually cook our own turkey the day after as we decorate for Christmas. This is a great giveaway- thanks for offering it!

    • Judy says:

Plans are still up in the air, either I will host, or my sister, either way it will be lots of family, fun and food.

    • LindaAnn says:

We will travel to our son’s home for Thanksgiving this year. This will be a treat for me as I have always hosted in the past. Looking forward to being with family. Love the give-a-way, and the recipe. May just try it for a church function this week-end. Sweet Blessings

    • Sarah B. says:

We will be going to my Grandma’s to celebrate with my Mother’s family this year!

    • Rebecca says:

We will be hosting a dessert buffet the night before Thanksgiving at our church. then traveling to my parent’s home. I’ll probably make something but not sure what yet! I made the pumpkin dip last year and it’s delish!

      Rebecca Ann

    • Ayla says:

We’ll be on a plane to New York to visit my sister and her family Thanksgiving morning. Being 30 weeks pregnant along with having a toddler, I am so thankful that I don’t have to do anything for the holiday this year other than enjoy my family.

I love the quote on the plaque.

      Love you.

    • Wendy says:

We will be sharing the cooking with friends and meeting at their house. We also invited a family that came to the States this year and have no one to spend the holiday with.

Love the apron! Thanks for this and all of your giveaways!

      Blessings!

    • Star says:

We will be going to my mother in laws for some fried turkey breast (from wild turkey my hubby and his daddy shot last year)! I’ll be in charge of dessert and sides.

    • Colleen says:

We always have Thanksgiving at our home with family and friends who are like family to us. We will have an empty chair this year as our good friend Doug passed away. It won’t be the same without him. We were like family to him. We miss him so much.

    • Karen says:

We will have the kids home for Thanksgiving. My daughters do the cooking on Thanksgiving so that I can play with the grandkids. (I do all the before hand prep.) My eldest daughter and family live 5 hours away so this time is a blessing!

    • Julie R says:

My Mom is hosting, but I’ll be doing a bunch of cooking to help her out! (Since I’m only 10 min away) Thanksgiving is by far my favorite holiday!

    • Debbie says:

We have been invited along with other friends, family, and area pastor families to our friends’ home in the country. Their 22 year old, very creative son has been dreaming of hosting a nontraditonal Thanksgiving feast for the past couple of years and this is the year. It will be potluck where people bring their favorites. He has talked of doing ribs, and steak on the grill, and waffles, etc. He has been known for thinking outside of the box since he was a young boy. He brings fun and joy to all he does. I think I am going to take some vegetable dishes to contribute, and your pumpkin dip sounds good. too. It’s really special to see the young people getting involved in hospitality.

    • Maureen says:

My husband goes to his side of the family and I go to mine. (It is easier this way because then we are not rushed to go from house to house–plus we were unable to have kids so it is easier that way as well).
I will be going probably bring a pumpkin crisp if it is not held at my house.

    • Lisa Buchanan says:

Because of MANY parents (divorced families) – we opted a few years ago to get together with my mom and siblings the Sunday before Thanksgiving and we will be at her house…….SO that leaves Thanksgiving day for our families (me, my hubby and kids) – to enjoy our annual trek to the mountains for our Christmas tree – I am so absolutely excited for this, this year, I cannot wait! God Bless!

    • Jennifer Hutchinson says:

My husband does all the cooking for our family Thanksgiving meal. We host this holiday every year. This year we will also be going to church to serve the community for 2 hours. :) Love this time of year, crisp air, leaves changing colors, great comfort food!

    • Beccy says:

Thanksgiving has always been special to us because my grandparents’ owned a turkey farm. We are traveling to my sister’s house. Each family brings a dish. This is the first Thanksgiving I have been able to spend with my family since my mom died. My mom always had Thanksgiving for all her family. She started it after her mom died. Before that, it was at my grandparents’ home around their big, heavy, wooden dining room table. The family joke was that whomever inherited the table hosted Thanksgiving. Mom got it :-) The last two years of my mom’s life, she was too sick to host so my sister did it. Only because she agreed to have the table transported to her house. Lots of memories!

    • Michelle says:

I will be hosting this Thanksgiving! It has been a few years since we hosted Thanksgiving, so I’m looking forward to it.

    • Kim says:

I am hosting early/next weekend for 12. Thanks for the recipe. I love pumpkin-anything!

    • Wendy Howard says:

I am gowing to have Thanksgiving dinner with friends. We live in the west coast, but our family is back east. God had given us great friends here that are like family.

    • Yvonne says:

What a fun giveaway! Thanksgiving this year will be at my brother’s house. My sister and I will be brining all the side dishes and desserts.

    • Barb Wall says:

I will be traveling to San Antonio with my daughter Laura and my grandaughter Simone to be with my husbands family. I am excited to be with them because it has been about 6 years since we all got together for a holiday. My husband went home 8 years ago this Nov 20th. I am sad that my middle daughter will not be there–she is pregnant and her life is topsy turvy right now–please keep her in your prayers. I hope you have a wonderfully blessed Thanksgiving and thank you for the recipe!!!! Blessings, Barb

    • Trisha says:

Hi Karen, we have a tradition of going to my sister-in-laws home and enjoying a turkey stuffed dinner with the family favorites and watch Christmas Vacation that evening and always look at the Black Friday ads with maybe a hot cup of tea!

    • Laura says:

What fun you have with all your lovely give-aways! They always inspire me to give-away too – to someone that is not expecting a surprise blessing.

Thanksgiving is spent with family – extended family – often about 50-75. It is the one time of the year that we all still get together as a group since my grandparents have died. We meet at a local church’s fellowship hall and all bring the food. Such a selection! Of course, we all expect certain relatives to bring certain items…. Then time to spend with immediate family around the games, parades, etc. Certainly a time for thanksgiving in our family!!!

    • Norene Bartkowski says:

We will be going to my hubby’s mom’s for the annual family Thanksgiving dinner. Lots of the 3 F’s… food, family and football! I love today’s givaway. Paula Deen is my fave! And the stitchery verse is precious. Thanks for offering!

    • JoAnne says:

I am very excited about this Thanksgiving because I am going to my son’s home. He is cooking. And we will be sharing that day with his new wife. I will probably be taking some easy car travel food items. The dip sounds great. Looking forward to all my children and grandchildren being there.

    • Deb V says:

We are traveling about 12 hours from our home to have thanksgiving with my family. I am in charge of the desserts, so I have to prepare ahead of time or do some baking when we get there. I haven’t decided yet.

    • SueBE says:

My sister and I live fairly close to each other. I host Christmas and she hosts Thanksgiving. What am I bringing to her meal? I’m not sure yet. Much to her disgust, my husband and I tend to decide these things less than a week in advance. But we always work together and enjoy the time.

The dip looks yummy! My middle child who eats a total of 5 (yes, 5) things actually ate a dip similar to this in food therapy (yes, there is such a thing) this week!
We’ll be attending dinner at 2 homes…my parents, then the hubby’s parents (where all his family will gather). I’ll be contributing dessert in both places.
We’ll also be doing a 5K (and I don’t run…hmmmm)- in memory of my mother-in-law and in honor of my middle child who has Cerebral Palsy- early that morning!

    • Jeannie S says:

    • Lyndel Trojcak says:

I will be hosting Thanksgiving with my parents. This year we are getting together with my dad’s sister and we are making grandma’s pies. She made everything from scratch and they are yummy! We also keep extra room at the table for anyone we meet which has no place to go for Thanksgiving. My sister-in-law was trick or treating and met a recently widowed woman with 3 small children. She has no family in our town. I am happy to say she and her children will be joining us for Thanksgiving! We love to share what the Lord has blessed!

    • Crystal says:

I will be hosting Thanksgiving this year, and my mother will be bringing over a few items : )

    • Kim C. says:

Excited to find another use for pumpkin – as our children had a great time growing pumpkins in the garden this year.

We will be celebrating at home as our oldest has football practice that day. His football team is undefeated and is heading to the state championship! No complaints from us as we are excited to have the leftovers!

    • Edwina Cowgill says:

My sister and I host the holidays on a rotating basis. This year, she will host Thanksgiving and I will host Christmas. We always take dishes to the other’s house, because it’s almost too much for one person to do alone. And now, our adult children are also bringing dishes. We have our traditional dishes that each of us is known for. Mine is English Pea Casserole – quite yummy!

    • Thanksgiving will be at our daughter’s house with family. Thank you for your post. Always a blessing.

    • Kris C says:

We will be here at home with just hubby and me. And cat faces begging for turkey. :)

    • Lisa says:

We are going to my mom’s for Thanksgiving this year. We take turns each year between my family and my husband’s family. :)

    • kristi bomar says:

Hi! We always host Thanksgiving at my house! It makes for a great time of cooking and having a blast with family! Although, my husband is not always here to fry turkeys for us since he works offshore. And my beautiful granddaughter will be at her dad’s but I have faith we will still have a wonderful time!

    • Tracie says:

Hosting my husband’s family… there will be about 14 of us.

    • Jenni Kramer says:

I have hosted Thanksgiving dinner for atleast a dozen family members and a few friends for the past 9 years, that’s as long as I’ve had my own kitchen. This year, for the first time in my life, I will be working on Thanksgiving, so I don’t think we’re doing anything special.

    • Vreronica Gonzalez says:

We will not be hosting this year. We are having a huge celebration at my husband’s grandmother’s house. I will be bringing some pumpkin dip! Thanks for the idea!

    • Pat E. says:

Not sure what we will do this Thanksgiving. In the past, we’ve helped host a Thanksgiving day dinner for people who didn’t have family in our area: singles, people with older family members they were caring for, etc. It was really nice. We had dinner as one BIG family with the tables in a “U” shape, and then played games afterward. This year, we are on empty nesters with our son serving in Afghanistan and our daughter away at college. We may try to serve in a soup kitchen or drop in on some shut-ins in our area.

    • Diane Allen says:

We live just close enough that traveling back to our hometown and both families of origins is always an assumed requirement requirement. Most of the other siblings still live there as well so the gatherings are large. These homecoming holidays are a blessing and a curse.. When we were first married we ate at my husband’s grandmother’s house at noon sharp — my mother’s house mid-afternoon (because the men would hunt until then) and then had to go to my mother-in-laws for dinner at 6! Thankfully the number of meals have been pared down over the years. We still travel and do one lunch and one dinner and everyone attending brings a dish.. I take pies — pecan and pumpkin – mainly because they travel well. One day I suppose my children will come to our house, but that seems years down the road. These will be the first holiday celebrations my children ever enjoy at our home.

    • Karan Murrell says:

We will have Thanksgiving at our house including our two children and their families. We also have the children’s In-Laws and Familys…… We have a great gathering every Thanksgiving. The dip would be a great new recipe for this gathering. Looking forward to giving thanks for all our blessings…..

    • Kathy says:

Hosting! Can’t wait for this yearly family time to arrive!!!! Little ones will get to play at the feet of their great-grandparents, while grownup siblings catch up with each other and their lives…completely a busy day, but priceless, because family bonds are strengthened!

    • Brigitte says:

We will be spending Thanksgiving celebrating our blessings with our family and friends. This year will be bitter sweet. It is the first Thanksgiving without my precious Daddy. He will have the best seat of all at the feet of Jesus.. looking down on our family and friends. I think he will be proud of my carving of the Turkey. Usually his job. :)

    • Halona says:

Still not sure if we will host or traveling this year. We have family all over but would just love to be home and celebrate with my family & church family.

    • Lisa says:

We always have Thanksgiving as a family, often at my Grandma’s house. But this year my Aunt is homebound so all the realitives will be having Thanksging at her house. We all chip in everybody does something. It is a nice family day including the parade and football! My Dad always gets a steak because he is actually allergic to turkey (poor guy). One of my boys favorite things in the world is pumpkin pie (he started asking for it in March) so he is very excited! My family happens to all get along well and we like spending time together do it is always a good day. :) Thank you Jesus.

    • Paula says:

I will be hosting my family on the day after Thanksgiving.

We are very proud, but it’s an emotional time for us since it will be the first of our lovely kids to leave home.
I will be making the main dishes–Turkey, Stuffing and maybe another side. The rest will be potluck with our wonderful friends and family :)

    • Shannan Fraser says:

I have no idea at this time. I have no money, but may try to host dinner for some friends who have about as much as I do. Maybe by pooling our resources, we will have a modest celebration. If that plan fails and I have the fuel, I will gladly volunteer my time to help in a kitchen to feed those less blessed than myself…

    • Tanya Pitcher says:

HAving Thanksgiving with family and friends at my bff’s house.

My father and his wife along with my husbands parents will be coming to celebrate with my family and I (10 total so far). We are blessed with so many things….Family is one of the best. Thank you for being a blessing with your blog to myself and so many others. Happy weekend…
      Smiles and Blessings,
      Robin :)

    • Andrea says:

I am hosting Thanksgiving this year!! I love to cook and prepare food for my family. And I just might add that pumpkin dip to the menu.

    • Sonja Bailey says:

I plan to host I lost my husband in April, so I hope my daughters and their families can all join me , this year of “firsts” is so difficult, my husband of 38 years, their daddy of 35 and near 40 years and my precious grand children simply miss their grandpa but we are a family that tries to celebrate TOGETHER I imagine it will be fairly traditional, turkey and mashed potatoes with giblet gravy and a few favorite side dishes… but most importantly, just sharing time as a family and remember what we have to be thankful for… I would love to share this day with my brothers who are in Florida, as we also lost our dad in August…

    • Jessica T says:

For the first time, we are having family over and hosting! (Hubby’s brother, wife and kids from out of state.) We’re excited. :)

    • Linda says:

At the moment, I think I will be doing our traditional Thanksgiving dinner this year with my son and the family visiting us. My son is in the army and can’t be away from the base on Thanksgiving Day and my husband will be working his security job as well on that day so we’re shooting for doing Thanksgiving dinner either on Monday or Tuesday of the big week. Funny how you can now see your children doing exactly what you had to do with family related holidays.

    • Patti B. says:

      I am hosting my family.

    • Leah says:

This Thanksgiving will be the first ever spent with my husband’s biological father and step-mom =) They met about 15 years ago, but visits are few and far between. We’ve invited them to celebrate with us for the last several years, but they have always declined. This year, we found ourselves preparing to celebrate just by ourselves, and were surprised when they instead invited us to come visit.

    • April says:

We are staying home, just us as usual. But this year will be our first vegetarian Thanksgiving. I am excited to try some new recipes and tweek old favorites.

    • Libby says:

We will be traveling to my Moms on Thanksgiving day. Also due to my children wanting a Thanksgiving at home I will also. be hosting another dinner on Sunday after Thanksgiving. One of my daughters has to work on Thanksgiving. This will also give her a chance to have dinner with the family.
      Happy Thanksgiving!

    • Donna says:

With our daughter and family in Houston. Should be fun. It is usually at my house but other daughter will be with her inlaws.

    • Mitzi Hadley says:

    • April says:

We will be traveling this year to visit my brother-in-law, sister-in-law, nieces & nephew whom we haven’t seen in 4 years. He is in the military and been overseas they are finally close enough to drive to. This will be our first Thanksgiving together ever.

    • Rebecca Knox says:

Ever since our youngest daughter got married we have spent Thanksgiving with her and our son-in-law (this will be our third year in a row). We plan on doing the same again this year. It’s always nice. We usually arrive Thanksgiving morning and stay until Saturday. This year we’re going up Wednesday and staying until Friday. We only get to spend time together two or three times a year so I’m very excited and am looking forward to it!

    • Diana says:

This Thanksgiving will be different for my husband and I . Our daughter Dana had her first baby this year. Nathan will be 4 months old on Thanksgiving. My husband has Parkinson’s so I now do all the driving. We are planning on me driving to Washington DC (her husband works for the Secret Service) to see Matt, Dana and Nathan. I will drink plenty of caffeine to stay awake as I drive. We are so looking forward to seeing them. My husband hasn’t met little Nathan yet.

    • Sarah says:

I LOVE Thanksgiving because my family helps with the Community Thanksgiving Dinner. We meet around 7 in the morning to help prepare food. Around 11 LOTS of volunteer hand deliver the hot meals to people in need, elderly, shut-ins, etc. It is just a great day! Last year around 1,500 meals were delivered and served.

I have made this dip every year for several years and everyone loves it and wants the recipe. Is there a way to make it for a diabetic? We are planning to travel to my daughter’s house where she, my son-in-law, and 3 grandchildren are cooking for at least 9 people. She is trying something new this year, crock pot dressing. She says it’s good but I’m from the old school and wondering! May have a new tradition!
