Upcoming Online Hospitality Study

Two weeks from today on March 19th, here on this blog we’ll be having a hospitality study.

Hospitality is important to God. He tells us we are to offer it. (3 John 1:8)

We are to practice it. (Romans 12:13)

And we are to do it without grumbling! (1 Peter 4:9)

The hubster and I are in the middle of a six-week Sunday evening Bible study that is meeting at our home.

Our living room, ready for our group to arrive.

A clearance Easter piece from TJ Maxx and some vintage greeting cards

A Happy Easter banner, also from TJ Maxx. (I'm always in TJ Maxx the day after a holiday looking for cute decorations!)

The cross made for me by a five-year-old neighbor boy. He is now a 25-year-old soldier with a family of his own. I put it out every year.

Please plan to join us for our study. If you want more information, click here.

If you already know you’d like to join us for ideas, guests, giveaways and your chance to share your ideas (by way of comments and a feature where we’ll have links to any of your blogs here) then simply sign up to get my posts via email. You can do this by clicking on the envelope icon in the top of the sidebar.

You’ll also need to get a copy of my book A Life That Says Welcome and start reading.

Oh….this is gonna be like an online party and I LOVE parties!

Happy hospitality!

I am so excited I can hardly wait! This is an area that the Lord has spoken to be about so many times and it is definitely out of my comfort zone. I just found your web site and I am so glad I didn’t miss this study.

Had company for dinner Saturday night – otherwise known as “adventures in entertaining.” If I posted a picture of our house, it would be the funniest thing ever. Our living room floor is plywood, our walls are unpainted drywall, and we have one couch, a rocking chair, and a stool for sitting on! Hence, why we never have people over. Finally hand-selected this couple b/c we felt that they would not judge our lack of a finished house and would enjoy the meal and the visit. We served cheeseburgers, onion rings, baked beans, and fresh fruit. By request of the guests – no dessert! They visited with us for four hours and we had a nice time. In preparation for their visit, my husband hung the light fixture above the dining room table. Finished it just half an hour before they arrived. Oh, and another thing – we’ve only had the table and chairs for a little over a year – inherited them.

I’m new to your blog and really enjoying your posts! I’m looking forward to the online Bible study. I’m hoping it will get me over my “everything-has-to-be-perfect-before-we-can-have-anyone-over-and-nothing-is-ever-perfect” hang up! Have a blessed day!

I want to get so much better at this kind of stuff :) Seems like a fab study! Your house is so welcoming – I’m certain that your Bible Study group feels super comfy and warm there! May you be blessed as you dig into God’s Word together – there’s so much power in that!

      Blessings,
      Kate :)

    • Do you have a Kindle version of this book? I doubt I could get it in enough time for the study. :(

    • Cindy Francis says:

Our last dinner guests were family who were visiting for the Christmas holiday. I love entertaining but I don’t do it very often. I’m hoping this study will spur me on to do it more.
      Looking forward to it!

    • Donna Sakabu says:

Would you believe I have had your book since October, 2009? I have not read it yet, but it looked like a good one, hence I purchased it. Dug it out of my bookcase this morning and look forward to beginning. I want to have more hospitality in my home, on a regular basis. I know I will enjoy and appreciate the interaction and insights from you and the other women via this online study. Thank you!

    • Mandi says:

Recently I was asked to help plan and run a workshop for our upcoming church women’s retreat. The topic is on “Home Decorating”. One of my FAVE resources for this topic as well as many others… is YOUR book, “A Life that says Welcome”. What an impact it had on me! I love the reminder that its really not all about “stuff” but about the true meaning of hospitality. I’d really like to join up with this study and learn more!

    • Norma Nichols says:

How do I sign up for the hospitality study?

    • Nita says:

The last time we had company for dinner was at Christmas time. We had several Christmas dinners, the last January 15th. I was so ready to put away the Christmas decorations, but had to wait until the new grandkids had their first photos at Gramma’s house in front of the tree. I’m really looking forward to the Bible study.

    • Sandie says:

I just recieved my book and can’t wait to get started. Will be digging in to the first couple of chapters after work tonight.

    • Wow! I LOVE the simple and meaningful decorations. Everything looks so cozy and ready for Easter! Wanna come set-up my condo too? ;)

      <3 Heather

    • June Horne says:

Your decorations are so simple, but yet lovely. Thank you for offering this study. I have ordered the book for my kindle, and am looking forward to getting started.

    • Stephanie Olmsted says:

Love the decorations and will be checking back for the Hospitality Study. I already own the book (double check) and read it few years ago. You spoke at Faith Baptist MOPS Group in Waterford, MI and I purchased the book there. Makes me want to get back into a Mom’s group. Is there a sign up for the study?

    • Kathleen says:

We have so enjoyed having company over the years and it, too, has included plywood floors and walls which were plastic covering the pink insulation. After 2 Christmas celebrations like that we finally had a more finished (not completely finished :) ) living/dining room the next year.

Over the last many years though my husband has withdrawn and does not enjoy company as much. Wondering if the book covers a situation like this.

      Thank you for your ministry.

      Kathleen

    • lamina Schultz says:

This book speaks to me. I’ve always turned company away because of
Fear I wasn’t organized, snacks, drinks. I can’t wait to start reading and learn the biblical part
Of having guests over. Truly excited! HUGS.

    • Lorie says:

I read this book about 4 years ago and loved it. This area is one I truly desire and still struggle with…I need a refresher so I am excited about this new study! I should probably re-read this book. I have always wanted to my home to be a place of welcome, ministry and blessing. I’m not a perfect hostess, but working on it little by little. Thanks so much for your inspiration and encouragement!
