When It Is Chilly——Make Chili!!!

Okay, for those of you outside the Midwest, you may have a warm and wonderful weekend. For us? WE ARE FREEZING!!! Temps below zero and wind chills in the negative 20’s and 30’s!!! In fact, many schools around here are canceled Friday- (if my children are reading this and it is still Friday; No, not our homeschool. Proceed as usual!!!)

To warm my family up, I am making chili. (My son Mitch’s birthday is tomorrow and it is his absolute favorite) It is a modified version of two old recipes that I have perfected over the past 15 years. I thought I’d share it with you today. Maybe it will warm your weekend. Hey–and it is pretty low in Weight Watchers points. We serve it with shredded sharp cheddar cheese and sour cream on top. (Okay–that makes the points go way up!!!) As side dishes, we have cornbread and fruit.

Hand-and-Heart-Warming Blessings,

Karen

40 ounces Brooks Chili beans, mild

1/2 C. kethcup

4-6 T. chili powder

1 t. garlic powder (or 1 T. fresh, chopped garlic)

  1. This looks good! I think I’m going to try it. Oh and I’ll be using sour cream and shredded cheese all right!

I’m in north NJ. And not quite as cold as where you are, but brrrrr pretty cold here for this whole week.

  2. I am going to make this for dinner in the coming week. It looks yummy and it has been cold here in NC believe or not…cold by our standards anyway.

I think I will make it in my crock pot.

    Thanks for sharing it!

  3. I have NEVER made chilli, but maybe I’ll give your recipe a try. With it being -25c here today with the wind factor, we need something to warm us up. Sounds tasty!

    Have a great weekend,
    Joy

  4. Great minds think alike! I made chili for supper last night and it did help warm us a little. It was 15 below 0 this morning…not including the wind chill. Brrrr! Thanks for the recipe. I’ll try it next time.

  5. Thanks for the recipe. I made chilli a few weeks ago. I try and make it a few times during winter. I live in Idaho and it does get cold but your temps are outrageous! We are to have mid 30’s today. :) I’ll have to give this recipe a try. I’m always up for something new.
Thanks again and try and stay warm.
