Weight Loss Wednesday- Post-Turkey Ponderings

Today’s post will be short due to my having to host the 12 Days of Christmas Giveaway. But I didn’t want us to skip two weeks, especially at the holidays, so we’ll still check in.

Soooooo….how’d it go? The big Thanksgiving meal show-down, I mean. Did you stuff a turkey and yourself? Or, did you make a plan and stick to it? Or was it half-and-half?

I was praying for us as a WLW team, asking God to grant us self-control.

Now, I really want to know how you did.

I planned to eat some turkey, veggies and fresh cranberry relish along with some low-fat spinach dip and a piece of crustless pumpkin pie. Then, if I stuck to my plan, I would be rewarded on my shopping trip Friday with a yummy and sweet skim-milk latte.

I’d like to say it was easy sticking to the plan, but it wasn’t. Actually, it was kind of torturous.

I pouted a little as I passed the potatoes.

I drooled as the dressing went by.

A glance at the gravy made me long for a big plate of fattening fixin’s.

And the homemade pecan pie….it nearly made me cry.

And, to top it off, I spoke Saturday and Sunday at two nights of a wonderful Advent by Candlelight event with the most decadent and yummy desserts you ever saw in all your live-long days.

But I had a plan. I told all of you my plan. And I said I’d stick to it.

So….thanks to the accountabiblity here, I did.

And now, I am thankful I ignored the cries of the fattening foods and instead enjoyed the simple healthy treats on my little ole’ plan last Thursday. And had just a bite or two of dessert and some piping hot coffee at those Advent events.

For this morning the scale  (for the third week in a row–this is gettin’ strange) showed a loss of 3.4 pounds.

Hmmmm….decisions….decisions….big plate of fattening food? Or a 3.4 pound loss? Which one do I want more?!?

Duh!!!! I’m glad, despite the feels-good-for-a-moment temptation, that I made the right choice-thanks to YOU HERE ON WLW!!!!

You never have to say what you weigh or exactly how much you lost or gained if you don’t want to. And remember, you can always simply say “restart”.   5. Our Thanksgiving meal consisted of “fried mullet, cheese grits, baked beans and hush puppies”. Now those of you not on the Gulf Coast may wonder about meal but it was great. . .and less filling. :)

  6. No difference on the scale this week for me, which was a little surprise because I was very busy and bypassed LOTS of yummy desserts and candies at our ladies’ Advent event. In fact, if anything, I probably ate too little because of a hectic schedule.

    Still have MUCH to be thankful for!

    Great job, Karen and others who were able to lose! To all: God bless your week even when you feel weak! We want strong, healthy bodies. Will be praying!

  7. Somehow I managed to lose 2.8 lbs this week. Praise the Lord!
    I did good on Thanksgiving and didn’t stuff myself. I adjusted some of my recipes with fat free evap. milk and egg subsitute and they turned out great. It was the week-end that was difficult for me with family staying over and we ate out. I really blew it when we had pizza. I ate and ate, then ate some more. Just couldn’t help my self. Now that that is behind me I am back on track. Karen, I must tell you that your crustless pumpkin pie is so very delish. It was a big hit with all my family. In fact my husband wants me to bake another one.
    Debbie, I will add your recipe to my collection of muffin recipes. It sounds so easy to make and we like pumpkin just about anyway it can be fixed. Thanks for sharing.
    Ok girls, lets make it a great week as we continue on this journey.

  8. Ok, I held steady over the holiday. But really realized (like someone said earlier–the pain of staying the same is worse than the pain of change). I started my food journal, seriously can’t keep it in my head. and I started exercising–my goal is for daily, but in reality, min of 5 times per week on the eliptical. I’m also ordering a kettleball exercise tape.

    tonight we had an office christmas party, I indulged and had two peanut butter bars and I enjoyed every ounce. I think I learned thatnext time one treat would be fine. Old habits are hard to break–almost unconscious–but I did enjoy them and no guilt.

  9. Though the scale didn’t change, I’m going to try another restart. Note to self: STOP SNACKING every time you walk near the pantry door. UGH UGH UGH

    Way to go Karen! You ROCK (if my my kids were here they would be rolling their eyes right now)!!!

  10. I’m going to say restart…things have been a little stressful with a number of things going on. But God is still God. I’m glad you held on Karen and thanks for the encouragement & prayers. Not going to mention the numbers, but I know God and you all are on my side and it’s only a matter of time.

  11. I’m hitting the restart button. I’m soo overwhelmed with this weight loss stuff. I don’t seem to be getting any traction, up and down etc. So, I’m definately hitting the restart button.

  12. Greetings Ladies, I’m joining you all today as I found this site via Melissa Taylor and I could use some extra accountability for myself so this is great. I hope that I can be encouraging as well as receive encouragement while here. I started my journey to better health, weight loss on 10/14/09 and have lost 20 lbs so far. I am not dieting at all. I am just focusing on Jesus and honoring Him with my body. He showed me how gluttony is a sin and I used to be a chronic overeater but when God speaks you better listen and when He spoke to me it started me on my way. I’ve been exercising daily for about 3 weeks now and it’s truly making a difference. I did really well on Thanksgiving and actually lost 3 lbs so it was a good year for me. I had a bad day this week but this morning I was reminded of God’s mercies…Lamentations 3:22-23 ~ Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness….So be encouraged ladies, focus on Jesus and never give up.

  13. Way to go Karen and the rest of you who are doing it the right way! Me…not such a great week. How do you pass up holiday food without being rude?!

    Some of you have lots to deal with. I will pray for better days ahead for you and your family, Bobbey.

    Was not able to get out and run/walk much this week which really makes a difference for me. I notice when I am good about working out, I tend to not eat as much. Don’t know why that is, but it just is! I get more personal time in with the Lord during run/walks outside too. It’s just good for me the whole way around. Need to restart on that this week!

    Since we’ve begun.

    Oldest son = bronchitis
    Daughter = pneumonia (Chronic illness child)
    Hubby = BAD pneumonia
    Me= Pneumonia
    God asked me to quit my job
    Credit cards stolen
    Family Stress
    Youngest son = Bronchitis (Thanksgiving Day)
    Turkey in Richmond, we were not.
    Family Stress
    Brother in Law incredibly ill
    Family stress
    Identity Theft

    So I say again, RESTART!
    I’m heavier now than ever. When will I ever learn to trust God and not stress eat???

  15. I did not have a very good week. I was sick. And then my DH;s grandpa passed away. :( Hope next week is better!

  16. I hit enter too fast. I wanted to share a terrific fast receipe for pumpkin muffins with you.

    1 yellow cake mix
    1 can pumpkin 15 ounce
    1 t pumpkin pie spice (I use about 2 t because I like the spicy

    Mix all together. Batter will be extremely extremely thick and you will think I have left something out. But, just keep working the pumpkin into the cake mix. Using an ice cream scoop, put into muffin tins. It will make 12 muffins. Bake at 350 degrees for 18-20 minutes. These muffins are very moist and will last all week just sitting on your cabinet. According to the email I received from a weight watchers coordinator, each muffin has 2 points. I count calories and each muffin has approximately 200 calories. In addition to being a great tasty snack, the muffins are full of fiber which….well, we all know what additional fiber in our diets does. This is also a great way to use up all the extra cans of pumpkin we purchased for Thanksgiving. Enjoy!!
