Weight Loss Wednesday Quick Check In

Hey ladies :-) Most of you know I am in the middle of a series of giveaways with 12 of my fellow Proverbs 31 speakers. However, I didn’t want us to skip checking in this week. Especially with all the tempting foods starting to pop up all over.

I mean ALL over.

Everywhere I go, I see fudge and cookies and gingerbread lattes. Stores are handing out samples to shoppers. Friends are baking and sharing goodies. Grandma’s are making caramels and peanut brittle. Even my 11 year old keeps asking to make Christmas cookies.

Oh, and next Tuesday, (the Tuesday that is right before the Wednesday that we weigh in—-yep that Tuesday) I am holding a baking day with several of Kenz’s college and high school friends.

Boy, do I need to be on my toes and on my knees.

We all do. And we need to be faithful to pray for each other.

Hard. Real hard.

Although it is difficult to lose weight over the holidays, it is NOT impossible. Just keep this phrase in mind:

Less. And less often.

Eat less goodies and eat them less often. So, what that might look like is this: instead of indulging yourself  all day long on your cookie baking/ fudge making day, tasting and sampling and licking the bowl, plan ahead. Tell yourself you will NOT nibble all day long. You will instead pick one goodie to enjoy slowly at the end of the baking session. And that will be it!

Then the next two or three times you are near another array of goodies. You will take nothing. Instead, you’ll sip on something hot and lo-cal and pass on the treats. After all, you just indulged in a treat a few days earlier.

Less. And less often.

Make it your motto this season.

Now, how was your week? Did you eat less? Move more? Did you watch those BLT’s? (bites, licks and tastes?) Did the scale go up? Down? Hover around the same number as last week?

Please let us know! And hop on to encourage each other. I LOVE seeing that happen.

Hmmmm…and I may just have a little giveaway for one such encourager this week :-)

As for me, it was  a good week. Praise Jesus, it was one of those weeks that I obeyed and didn’t just do my own thing, eating whatever I wanted, even when I wasn’t hungry. I made time for exercise and didn’t go over my allotted calories. However, I wasn’t expecting a big loss since over the past three weeks I had lost a good chunk each week. I sensed I might slow down a bit this week.

I was right. This week I lost 1 pound on the button. (I like to think of it as 4 sticks of butter. That’s a lot of fat!!!)

Slow and steady wins the race, right?

Now, your turn….

How was your week?

Less-is-More Blessings,

  1. The Xmas parties started for me last weekend. Instead of looking at it as how will I deprive myself this year, I am trying to find a way to handle them every year. There are always great treats at our families events, but only a few are my very favorite. That is the one I am going to spurlge on and ignore the rest. Still not weighing myself, but the pants have a little bit more give in them this week.

  2. Karen you always know when to bring on the encouragement!! Less and less often is a great motto for this time of year. I attended a party last night and did well sticking to my plan. However I’ve started my Christmas baking and the BLT’s have been a big problem. I’m going to post this motto in BIG letters in my kitchen to remind be to omit the BLT’s. I do have good news to share: I wore a pair of slacks last night and was able to button them at the waist!! Had’nt done that in a long time. Sure makes a girl feel good. So girls, we’ve got to stick to our plan and the rewards will come. Let’s make it a great week!!

  3. Sorry for the third post, but I just saw Debbie’s post. Don’t give up! By Karen’s blog today you have lost 128 sticks of butter from your body! Way to go! You certainly don’t want to get them back on you now. Keep it up!

  4. Way to go, Zenice! It is so nice to so clearly see the wonderful fruits of your labors. :) Keep it up!

Congrats on all the rest of you who have gone down. I thought I had gone up this past week, but when I weighed in tonight, I saw that I was at exactly the same weight as I was last week. No gain!

I appreciate the encouragement and accountability of you other ladies. I will remember to keep you in my prayers as we continue to navigate this Christmas season. I have a party to attend on Friday!

  5. Hi,

I am down 1 lb. this week. My big school program is done so am going to focus more on my food journal and getting another day of excrcise in!

    Have a happy week!

  6. I forgot to bring home my weight log to see where I was at last Wednesday but I am pretty sure I am down at least 1 lb. Good for you javadiva to pledging in the pound for pound challenge that the Biggest Loser is sponsoring. I pledged as well for 50lbs. The food bank that my pledge went to supplies food for a local church pantry that I have been involved with for 4 years so I thought this would be a great way to help. Today I had my first evidence that I am really losing weight…where I work we have meetings in a room with these awful chairs with the arms and I have not been able to fit in these chairs ever so I always dread going there but today as I prepared to sit on the edge of the seat and kill my knees holding myself up I discovered that I could slide right into that chair completely and comfortably. I exclaimed “I can fit in this chair for the first time!!” My co-workers were so proud of me. They have been telling me that I look like I’m losing weight but I just don’t see it so this was a great motivator for me. I have a lot of weight to lose and this is a great beginning. Have a great week everyone! Time for me to Walk Away the Pounds with Leslie Sansone. I love her!

  7. I lost 1.5 lbs this week. Thought it was 2 until I realized I can’t subtract! However I agree that slow and steady wins the race. I have never lost this much on my own without some crazy diet or special meal plan! I am thrilled and feel like I have gained so much victory! I have discovered that I am enjoying the exercise as much for my physical and mental state as well as my spiritual state. I have been praying during my 3-4 mile walks and have found that time to be very sweet!

  8. Hey, everyone. I’ve been doing Karen’s calorie counting formula for several weeks now and slowly I had lost 32 pounds that is, until the Saturday before Thanksgiving. I gained 7 pounds during Thanksgiving and did lose it in the next week or two. I now seem to have lost my motivation, need my groove back and whatever other saying means I’m bored with this. I’m tempted to put my calorie notebook away until after the first of the year.

  9. I’m down 2.2 this week. Yay! I appreciate you who were praying for me about my Cheesecake Factory visit and for your tips about how to handle it. I tried to make sure that ate as low-cal as possible earlier in the day. Of course, eating 2000 calories in that one meal did send me over my calorie budget, but I tried to make up for it by eating less over the weekend and making sure to exercise.

Thanks, Karen, for the motto. I think that will help me. Congrats to those who lost and to those who maintained. That in itself is an accomplishment at this time of year. I’ll be praying for those of you facing tough times. I pray we’ll all turn to our Lord and not to food for strength and comfort.

  10. Here’s a quote I loved about handling stress without eating:

“Stress is the trash of life. We ALL generate it. But if you don’t dispose of it properly, it will pile up and take over your life.”

So if stress is trash, then one can’t solve a trash problem with eating. Instead, throw it out. In fact, picture yourself eating trash when you want to eat while you’re stressed.

    Really works!

  11. Kimberlee- Thank you for thee encouragement. I really appreciate it. I know it’s hard to fit everything in and you will get done what you need to! I hope you are able to get some sleep and spend some time in the Word Iknow that always helps me keep things in perspective.

  12. Well, I stayed the same this week. Way too many xmas cookies for concerts and such. My will power has improved to the point that I eat only one. however, I still eat them. Oh well!

  13. I found out yesterday that I am having yet another kidney stone surgery/procedure in January. So my hopes of getting back to my excercise routine are out of the question until probably Feb. GRRR. That being said I gained a pound this week. :(

  14. I was hoping for no change as opposed to the scale going UP today. :( But I’m soooo not surprised. It was totally a week of doing “my own thing.” And it shows.
I really wish I could get to bed at a decent hour so that I’d have energy to exercise. This whole week I’ve been going to bed way late, or having trouble sleeping, getting woken up 3x in a night, ugh! I have a feeling this is going to be the norm up to the holidays because I am making gifts, so I am up at night after the kids go to bed. I’m so tempted to have no homeschool till the new year! LOL
((HUGS)) to you, ewalker for having a rough week.
Did everyone see the Biggest Loser’s Pound for Pound pledge where it helps food banks? I just pledged to lose 15#. It’s scary to me, can I do it? Will I do it?? I’m doing this not just for me, but for people who are hungry! I will do it!!

  15. I’ve decided I’m not getting on the scale this week at all! It’s been a rough week and I’ve worked out almost everyday but I’ve been so hungry and eating way too much food. :0(. I will be back on track this week. Thanks for the new motto, I think it will help ALOT.

  16. I’m not a big fan of butter, so that illustration is one to get me motivated. :) I had a hard week last week. I exercised, but we had company and pizza and many other things that I indulged in. I usually weigh myself in the evening when I exercise, but yesterday I was up a bit. I also know that it is my time of the month for weight gain, so hopefully that will motivate me to keep moving too.

  17. I stayed the same. It has been a stressful week. And I have not ate right or worked out as much. Back on track!

    You are all doing GREAT!!

  18. I lost 2.8 pounds this week. Yahoo! It is so fun to finally see the scale moving down. The control I feel is so empowering. I’m walking my kids to school, trying to enjoy this ‘warm’ California winter (just moved from MN), and making good food choices all day long. I’m going real slim on the Christmas cookies this year.

Thank you, Karen, for inspiring us this Christmas season.

  19. I stayed the same, but I really think I might have lost something if it hadn’t been for the peanut M&M’s that were screaming EAT ME, EAT ME! UGH UGH UGH. Guess the peanut M&M’s did not grab my arm, jam by hand into the bowl and force me to eat them now did they???

  20. I did pretty good this week-my weight stayed the same! Yes, it IS incredibly difficult during this time of year….but if I eat a little too much one day, I workout longer the next day. I generally workout 5-6 days a week. So, girls, we CAN do it! It just takes more planning and determination.

  21. 4 sticks of butter?????? Boy, does that inspire me to watch what I eat! :) I lost 1 pound this week and have been trying real hard to pass up on the treats that are starting to appear everywhere! I even passed up gingerbread – one of my favorites. I like the idea of sipping something hot and low-cal, especially if it’s a latte of some sort. mmmm….

    Have a beautiful day everyone!

  22. Uggg, stayed the same. but I indulged in too many treats. and didn’t move so much–I hurt my knee moving last week and so I was taking it easy. I so need to get my act together.
