Cherry Blossom Presidents Day Giveaway

Thanks to the many of you who let me know you were praying for me since I was feeling a bit under the weather this past weekend.  You are too sweet!

Normally a little sinus trouble shouldn’t get a girl down, but I am severely allergic to cold medicine—as in wind-up-in-ER-and-admitted-to-the-hospital allergic, so I must suffer somewhat. Sea salt sinus rinses and melting a glop of Vicks Vapor rub in a metal bowl of boiling water and breathing in deep help a bit. There is one nose spray I can use, but only sparingly. So, most of the weekend, my head felt as if it would explode!

Now, since I still have that slight head-bursting feel, I will be brief. At the end of this post, I’ll announce all five winners of the Valentines Week giveaways. I’ll also offer a Presidents Day prize for today and want to invite you all back here tomorrow for a HUGE carnival of God’s Girl’s Giveaways our speaker team at Proverbs 31 is holding. Hey…the world will be indulging and celebrating Fat Tuesday up big. We’ll celebrate here too!

First, let me tell you what we’re giving away today.

Since it  is President’s Day here in the states, and since I always associate that winter holiday with ole’ George Washington and the cherry tree legend, I’m giving away some Bath and Body Works Cherry Blossom products; a bottle of lotion and some shower foam too. Flowers not included :-) They are leftover from our Valentines banquet at church.

SO…here is the dealio. Leave a comment today about your earliest memory of a US president. Was it someone you saw on TV? Was it passing out campaign literature with your parents for a candidate?

My friend Debi tells of being on her dad’s shoulders in Owosso, MI standing outside the train depot waiting for JFK to make a campaign stop. I remember my mom “sushing” us when President Nixon was on our black and white television screen resigning from office and Gerald Ford, his VP who is from my home state of MI, was taking office.

What about you? What US president do you first remember seeing or hearing about? (Please….no political slamming or “what a moron he was” comments. Let’s all be nice :-))

  1. My earliest memory was watching President Reagan on tv talking about the Challenger Space Shuttle explosion. I will never forget hearing that news.

  2. My earliest memory was also in grade school.
Hearing the teachers talking, noticing the flag lowered
to half mast, but still not quite understanding what was going on.
Getting home and seeing my mom very upset.
It was then explained to my sisters and I that someone assatinated President Kennedy and he had passed away.
I remember it being a very strange and sad day.

  3. A memory that has stayed with me, forever implanted in my heart. My Mom and Dad were voting for Nixon. At the tender age of 8, I told everyone that I was voting for Kennedy. And then that day on the playground, hearing the news that he had been shot, wondering how something so horrible could happen to such a kind, handsome man. I lost a bit of my innocence that day, as did the nation. It is the first time I remember asking God, “Why?”

  4. My first memory is Jimmy Carter’s inaugeration. I remember all the 6th graders being squished inot one classroom so we could watch the event on tv.

  5. I remember Richard Nixon on tv, alot!!! I was way too young to understand what was going on, but that’s my earliest memory. The first time I got excited about a presidental election was when Jimmy Carter was elected. I guess I understood what it was all about a little more and stayed up to see who won. It was very late!! I remember Jimmy Carter’s inaugeration day, because I thought Amy was a little too old to still have her mother blowing her nose!!!! HA!

  6. I remember being very young, riding in the car listening to the radio when Watergate/Nixon’s resignation happened and my parents said to pay attention because I was listening to history being made. By the way, a good nasal spray for sinuses is GSE (Grapefruit Seed Extract) by Nutribiotics. The Vitamin Shoppe sells it.

  7. Campaigning for candidates….against the then Governor Bill Clinton…eventually to be President. As a kid I campaigned for Mike Huckabee.

  8. My earliest memory was of Reagan talking on the news about star wars (not the movie). At the time, I thought it was cool that he liked the movies so much. But, I quickly realized that wasn’t right, so I asked my mom about it.

  9. The earliest memory I have is the George Bush Sr. Our school got a ‘letter’ from him that was framed in our school hallway. Actually, it was a generic letter that was electronically signed, but hey, I thought it was cool. :)

  10. I remember talk about Watergate and Nixon summer before third grade. I didn’t understand much of it but I remember feeling sad about it.

  11. I would also say that it was JFK’s funeral on TV & I felt so sorry for his young son, John who was holding the folded US flag & saluting the casket as it went by.

  12. I think my earliest memory was of Reagan. Not any specific memory but just that he was the president at the time. Besides that in late elementary school I remember Bush Sr. and the Gulf war happening. I do hope you continue to feel better Karen!

  13. I am thinking the first president I remember was President Reagan and that would have been in elementary.

    Have a great day!

    Joni

  14. My earliest memory of a president was seeing my mom crying when President Nixon resigned. I didn’t understand what was going on. But I knew it was something very sad because my mom didn’t cry much, especially while watching TV.

  15. I probably knew about JFK earliest, because he was shot on my parent’ anniversary, but the first president I personally remember is Nixon. Before that, I only remember Luis Echeverria…presdient of Mexico…that’s where I was living when I was really little!

  16. Well, I’m younger, so my earliest memory was of George H.W. coming on television when the US began its participation in Operation Desert Storm. The idea of war was all very new to me, and I remember just having so many questions!

  17. My earliest memory of a US President: I was on the playground in elementary school when it was announced that President Kennedy had been shot. To a child it was such a strange day. I remember one young boy standing and “cheering”. I have sometimes wondered about him as he grew up.
Grace and peace to you, Becky

  18. My earliest memory of a US President was Jimmy Carter. We moved to America from England when Jimmy Carter was in office.

I hope you feel 100% soon.

Love and blessings to you, Caroline
