Now for our regular post……

Love is in the air…….and roses…..and chocolate….and fancy dinners out. It is Valentines Week!

I have always adored Valentines Day; elementary school class parties with endless homemade, paper Valentines; high school dances (and a special singing Valentine delivered to me during fifth hour once by a barbershop quartet) and most of all many February 14th’s with my college sweetheart-turned-hubby whom I am  celebrating with for the 27th year in a row.

My posts this week will be short and sweet (pun intended). I simply want to introduce you to four wonderful books on marriage written by some friends of mine. One book, along with some other goodies, will be given away each day (except for Weight Loss Wednesday when I’ll offer a different, fun giveaway) The featured books will be by  her, and her and him.

At the end of each post, I’ll ask you all a simple question. Click on the comment form and leave a short answer to the question and you’ll be entered in the random drawing. This will be fun! Here we go:

Chitwood header7We’ll start (and end) the week with my friend, Proverbs 31 speaking team sister, and Kenz’s current “other mother” Melanie Chitwood. Kenz began her year living in Charlotte with my P31 sister Wendy Blight, but due to Wendy’s daughter having major surgery and a great deal going on in their home, requiring their bonus room back, (Kenz’s home-away-from-home) she was taken in by Melanie, her hubby Scott and their two boys–who are the exact same ages as Kenz’s biological brothers!

Today, Melanie is giving away a signed copy of her book, What A Husband Needs from His Wife. I’ll throw in a $5.00 Starbucks card so the winner can steal away for a mug of something hot and delicious to sip on while she reads.

WhatAHusband

What do men really need from their wives? And what is the best way for wives to meet those needs? This engaging and thoroughly biblical guide demonstrates that a woman meets her husband’s needs most effectively by maintaining her own vibrant personal relationship with Christ. Filled with useful tools that will help women understand their husbands better, this enlightening resource includes…

Readers will also find useful tools for understanding their husbands better, including
– Ideas for dealing with addictions, infidelity, and financial challenges
– Explanations of personality types and love languages
– Resources that offer help for the helper

Each chapter ends with a list of focus points that summarize the chapter’s most important thoughts in an easy to remember format, as well as a concluding prayer that provides readers an opportunity to interact with God about what they have learned. A study guide at the end of the book makes this a perfect tool for individual or small group use.

Trust me ladies…..this is a wonderful, honest, and helpful book. Just like the gal who wrote it!

Now, to be entered in today’s giveaway, leave a comment answering this simple Valentines Day question:

What is your favorite candy (current or retro)? Peanut Butter Cups? Sweet-tarts? Mary Janes? Pixie Stix? Zagnut bars? Sprees? Plain milk chocolate? Hard, sour candies like Jolly Ranchers?

Mine is anything with coconut and dark chocolate combined; from a simple grocery store Mounds Bar to a fancy handmade, dark-chocolate dipped macaroon. Or, a retro favorite (one I remember riding to the Quik Pik corner store to get—-on my purple Schwinn bike with the banana seat and white, flowered basket of course) is Charms Sweet and Sour swirl pops.

How about you?

Candy-coated blessings,

  1. I haven’t had chocolate in a long time, so all of this talk of it is making me crave!! I love anything peanut butter and chocolate although my favorite is Reese’s Crispy Crunchy bar. Thinking back – one of my favorites was a Clark bar.

  2. I like cold Junior Mints, Dark Chocolate Dove bars, and Mounds or Almond Joy bars. Does anyone remember @ Ben Franklin 5 & 10 stores in the Midwest (Illinois) they had HOT cinnamon toothpicks. You could barely suck on them. Whoo, they were spicy; at least when I was 11, 12, and 13 years old. Also I liked Teaberry chewing gum.

  3. I love Dove dark chocolate or Three Musketeers bars. Or Fannie May Mint Meltaways. Mmm… I also love coconut and dark chocolate together. Or caramel and chocolate. :-) It’s a really good thing I don’t allow myself to buy candy very often!!

  4. My favorite is the white chocolate Lindor truffles or a Hershey’s bar. THe truffles are so yummy and I love the creamy filling. They are rich and feel like a vacation while eating them. I also love a plain Hershey bar because our last family vacation was to Hershey and it brings back such good memories. Things with my husband have been very difficult lately and I enjoy the happy memories a Herhsye bar brings.

  5. Chocolate & peanut butter or chocolate covered strawberries. Yummm! Melanie is coming to speak at our women’s retreat in Virginia on the 19th & 20th. I can’t wait to meet her and would love to win this book. Thanks for the give-away.

  6. Dove chocolates are my favorite that can be found in any store. Otherwise, I love Gorant’s chocolates, which is a candy factory located in Youngstown, OH where I grew up. I used to buy a year’s supply when I visited. I can’t afford that anymore, but a girl can dream.

  7. Dark chocolate, Lindor (Lint) Truffles…….can take me away from it all: for about the whole three seconds it takes me to eat it!!! lol!

  8. After spending my girls weekend away with nine of my girlfriends I was introduced to Take 5 candy bars. Chocolate, carmel, pretzel . . . AWESOME! Best of all . . . it’s my girlfriend’s reminders to stop and “take 5” for myself, something ALL moms and busy women need to do. I wish I could buy you all one!

  9. Definitely spiced gum drops…but not because of the taste. They just remind me of my grandmother, and memories of her are much sweeter than any candy I can think of!

  10. Plain milk chocolate…a few choc chips, a Hershey’s kiss or the whole bar and on rare occassions…the wonderful kind of perfect chocolate made in Belgium!!!

  11. I LOVE Milky Way Midnights. My husband always buys me a bag of the minis for Valentine’s Day. It’s the best gift and I don’t have to share with anyone!

  12. I love most candy but I think my all time favorite is Snickers!!! Just as they promise, it is truly satisfying for me!!

  13. It’s too hard to pick a favorite candy! There are so many! Since I have to choose, I’ll say that I probably couldn’t get by without Jolly Ranchers. :-)

  14. Well, I’m usually a peanut butter and chocolate anything girl however, my absolute favorite is a chocolate dipped strawberry. It is such a rare treat but what an amazing delecacy.

  15. I love Dove dark chocolates. I remember when I was a young girl, we would ride our bikes from the swimming pool to the Icee Stand and get Fun Dips. I had a dark purple banana seat bicycle with a flowered basket, too!

  16. With all the talk of bikes and baskets ….it is easy to remember riding to town for extra milk and cheese because three brothers could easily drink a gallon each after hockey practice. How often I crossed my fingers that there would be an extra dime in the change for a ‘Cuban Lunch’……tons of salty roasted peanuts in a square of chocolate all nestled in a red crimped paper tray……thanks for stirring the memories.
ps….This will be age revealing, but we had no Dollar General….it was the 5-10 cent store!

  17. Anything with carmel and choclate: Carmello’s, Hershey’s Treasures, and Hershey’s Kisses with carmel inside.

  18. I love peanut chews!!!

Though I have to admit, one valentine weekend my husband fed me chocolate covered strawberries-it was very goooood!
