Weight Loss Wednesday Quick Check-In

That is my moved-recently-to-the-south daughter’s new way of getting my attention when she has something quick to say and she’s in a hurry. Well, that is definitely me today, so….

I don’t want to miss giving you a place to check in for the week and let us know the progress you are making or the ways you need prayer in your weight loss journey. However, I have no clever advice or pertinent topic to ponder today.

No ma’am. All I have today on my plate is STRESS!!!

I leave in the morning for my biggest conference of the year. My new talk is not polished. My power point presentations are no where near done. (That is what happens when you are techy-challenged and have to go to your youth pastor to get a Power Point for Dummies course just before leaving–thanks Pastor Chad!)

I spent a night in ER with my son that ended Monday at 5:00 am. He and his brother needed to leave for a homeschool ski trip at 6:00 am. I haven’t packed. I haven’t prepeared food for when I’m gone for four days (but did dig up a whole mess of fast food coupons. They’ll probably like that better than homemade pot pie left in the fridge for them). I need to go to the bank. Inventory my books. Learn how to use my new credit card machine………

Oh, yeah….and today is my birthday.

I almost forgot.

So…hop on today and let us know how you are doing.

And if you have any advice for keeping away from the junk food when under extreme stress and time crunches, I know of at least one gal who’d be delighted if you shared!

Comment away and I’ll see you next week!

  1. Hi Karen, Just want to say your blog has been an inspiration to me. As I read today’s Encouragement message I was hoping also to find a prayerful group to help me stay on track. I’m 64 and have some health issues but I work out at Curves twice a week and it seems to help. I need to lose weight so I will be able to enjoy my grandchildren. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to join.

  2. I’m in!!! This sounds great, and I hope I will stick with it.I just recently(5 months ago)put down drugs and alcohol and through the grace of God havent found a good reason to use again, but unfortunately I must have turned my addiction over to food.I have put on 25 pounds! I have a great support system with my drug and alcohol problem, but I really dont want to continue gaining weight(actually I need to take the 25 + back off) I will be checking in to get the spiritual”food” I need and thanks for making this available to us!!! Shari

  3. I’m in!! Lost 15 pounds, now have gained it all back. Would LOVE to drop 15-20 lbs. before our vacation in June!!!

  4. This is just too wonderful! Just what I need…friends with faith. I need to lose 100 pounds, but my initial goal is 25. It seems like 100 is just so far away, maybe making smaller goals will make it easier. I have a lot of life stressors going on, but if I don’t take care of myself, I won’t have any stressors to worry about! I give everything else over to the Lord, I don’t know why I didn’t think about turning this over to him too.

May you all have a blessed day!

  5. Glad to have found this sight. I need to lose 40 pounds, again!
I am on an eating plan, lost 1 lb and the gained .5lb after eating a large Easter dinner. I am logging my food and into my 3rd week of trying…it is hard to exercise because of the pollen. I have bad allergies, need to find an indoor alternative for the next couple of weeks. Asking God to guide me there because money is tight.
I will weigh in this Firday and post my results next week. So far, I’ve lost .5lb – 39.5 to go! Thanks for letting me have a space to be accountable.
    God Bless everyone this week.

  6. I guess I am not doing this properly so please help ! I am 74 and weigh WAY too much. I have type 2 diabetes ans am on a mess of drugs I’d like to leave behind. I am a retired nurse and since I started putting on weight can’t excercise much as my lower back is in so much pain. I know if I lost weight I could do much better pain wise . I was always thin all my life till about 65 then and quit smoking and tried to do better and now the weight ! Please pray with and for me, I need encouragement as I am alone. I have 7 children but they are not close miles wise.
God Bless you all in your endeavors !

  7. Jan, sounds like you and I are in the same boat. I am blessed to have found this site and blog and to be a part of a braided strand so strong. Let’s do this thing!

  8. i’m in! i lost 90 lbs once, gained all & then some. prayed so hard for God to help me then realized i was suppose to do my part as well. i dropped 115 lbs. and now….once again i turned to food for comfort. gained 50 back again. stress over…everything! relationships. finances. job. looking for and trying everything to regain my motivation and here it is! i hope… and pray!!!

  9. Hello Karen,
I have been on an very stressful journey for the past two years. Prior to that, I had lost 50 pounds and was feeling and looking better than ever! I will be 45 years old in June, and have just recently come to accept the fact that I have gained most of that 50 pounds back and really need to encouragement to lose it again. I feel that the stress of the past two years has subsided some and I am ready to focus on me now. One of the things that I have begun doing which will help me internally is taking Juice Plus. I have made a step in the right direction to start to eat healthier by taking Juice Plus. It is easy to swallow the whole food supplement, but a little harder to find the motivation to eat right and stay on a regular exercise program. Eating the Juice Plus whole food supplement has actually increased my energy level, but lack the motivation. I encourage everyone that healthy eating is the first key whether we can eat the recommended 7-13 servings of fruits and vegetables everyday or can take Juice Plus as the next best thing. My goal is to lose 50 pounds again and stay on a regular exercise regimine and need encouragement. I think I am going to enjoy this blog. Thank you for putting it out there.

  10. I am not sure if I filled this out correctly, I have never blogged before. First Happy Birthday Karen, your story from “Encouragement For Today” has blessed me indeed. I too share a birthday I will be 43 on April 8 and I have experienced a great tuggin in my heart to get healthy. I don’t like the figures on the scale and I want to lose at least 50 lbs. I would love to utilize this website as an accountability tool to start working towards attaining a healthier weight and to build my self-confidence. Much success to everyone!

    Be Blessed!

  11. H
i Karen. Wishing you a blessed birthday. Take a deep breath and inhale God’s love, peace and abundant mercies.
I’m new on your blog, although I subscribe to Proverbs 31 and love it. Thank you for my weekly reminder that God is
In control. Today’s message reminded me that we’re not meant to go on this journey alone but get support from other
Godly women who understand. I’m thrilled to join the braided sisters
on this journey. I need to lose about 40 pounds but have always carried this
weight on my body. Actually I’ve lost & kept off 20 lbs but can’t budge the rest.
Recently I found out that my pressure is high & if I can’t lower it, I’ll have to go on meds.
Now I have incentive to loose but still struggling. I need all the inspiration and
prayers. I look forward to sharing this journey with you and my braided sisters.
    God bless you.

  12. I am a “newbie”. Trying to get joined up…This sounds like just the boost I need to get back to being more healthy. Happy Birthday , Karen!!!!

  13. Hi everyone,

Sorry I missed last week and am checking so late this week. I was heading to a convention last Thursday and was running around trying to get everything ready before I left too. This week after being gone and not getting enough sleep I came down with a huge head cold. I remember a while ago when Karen was sharing about how nothing tasted good when she was sick so she just kept trying things. Well that’s kind of how I’ve felt this week. I’m not quite sure if I’m up or down, my scale is being goofy. Today I finally feel a little better so am going to get a long workout in and hopefully stay on track this week. Hope Hearts is going well, Karen!

  14. I checked in earlier and couldn’t get back until this morning. Everything was good this week swam, walked and ate like a hog. :) Not sure where that came from but I ate fries and Ice Cream and all the things I shouldn’t. So I am very thankful that I am only up 1.4 pounds it could have been so much worse. So this week I need to get back on track and get it and more back off. I would really like to reach 25 pounds by the end of the month. I am now (after my binge) 3.8 pounds away from it. Oh well I have 3 weeks to get there. :) Happy healthy eating until next week…..

  15. Hi. Happy birthday Karen!! I am so like you with my birthday expectations! I find birthdays so disappointing too. Mind you, I sometimes don’t know what or how much attention would make me happy!!!
Anyway, I’m down 300 grams this week. It seems like such a small amount but apparently when you are getting close to your goal it comes off more slowly. At least it was down!!
Vicki – Congrats on getting close to the 200 mark. For me it was so exciting to be under the 100 kilogram mark and into double figures rather than triple. Well done, keep up the great work.
    Until next week…

  16. You will be in my prayers over the next week as you are doing Hearts. Sure wish I could be there! Sorry they won’t be coming to Michigan next fall. I have missed the last two years because the weekends they came were right in the middle of my annual fall temp job and just could not get away.
I am down a pound from last week. In general taking better care of myself and trying hard not to stress over the lowered income. Stress if I work too much and stress from worry if I’m not working “enough.” I really probably need to handle my stress level and reaction to things I cannot control more than my eating. Perhaps if I handle the stress, the eating will be easier to handle. I, too, need advice on how to deal with the eating when under stress, so I have no ideas for you. :(
I’m on the run today, too, but at least wanted to check in.

  17. Happy Birthday Karen. I pray that your stress level will go down and you will have God’s peace. I hope your day goes well and you are able to celebrate.

I had a good week this week. I ate well and exercised 5 days. I am down two more pounds. My youngest son was on a mission trip to Mexico and he came back safely, so there was a lot to celebrate at our house.

I hope everyone has a good week this next week.

  18. Happy Birthday, Karen! I hope it’s a wonderful day. Today is the warmest day we’ve had in a LONG time in Illinois, so at least you won’t be coming to IL during some of the coldest times we’ve had this winter!

I look forward to seeing you this weekend at Hearts. 1 1/2 years ago at She Speaks, I cried to you that I was so disgusted with myself, so tired of being heavy, so tired of being a person that was so different than what I know God intended, etc. You offered me heartfelt advice & words of encouragement. You also said next time we met there would be less of me! Well, last year at Hearts I was only down 5 pounds or so, but now, overall, I have lost about 25 pounds! Yippee! I still have 20 to hit my goal (45 to be where the “charts” want me, but I’m over that!). I’ve been up and down since Christmas time, but I’m determined that this nice weather will make for good walking/jogging weather. Thanks for posting even on your busiest of days.

    See you soon! :-)

  19. Happy Birthday Karen!! Take a deap breath, and thanks to you, I handle my stress and wanting to eat with 1 Corinthians 10:13!! Today I am rejoicing. I made an effort to not abandon obedience to the Lord and FINALLY come out of a weekend successful. I am down 2 3/4 lbs, leaving me only 1/2 pound from my first small goal…to be under the 200 mark. I am overjoyed. I have not been this low in more than a year. After a full week and a half of obedience to my healthy eating plan (I only mean I usually crash on the weekends and gain what I lost during the week back) and exercise I really feel empowered (with the help of the Holy Spirit, of course) to plow onward and downward!! :)

I’ll say extra prayers for you today in hopes that life levels off. I’m sorry your son was in the ER, hope all is well with him.

Give yourself a birthday hug from me. And Thanks for all you do for us in your busy life.

Good luck girls. Hope you all have a God filled and blessed week.

  20. This week had a little bit of everything. There were days of rejoicing as I chose to do what is best for me. I got to exercise and eat healthy. And I noticed I could do sit ups much better!!!
There were days of eating out on the road where I chose to eat some things that were not beneficial. ( this time I didn’t eat all the fries or finished all the drink ) I got to travel and visit mom for her birthday! :). Yes! Thank God for fresh new starts.
I’m still meeting with God first thing in the morning and the times I’ve missed made me realize how much I miss Him and stop what I may be doing and turn to Him for strength and guidance. Reading His Word has helped so much!
I am still exercising and push myself to prepare as much as I can in regards to meals.
I’ve lost 2 inches off my waist.
And did check my weight and lost 13 lbs. since Dec. 21st but I gained 3 back this weekend.

There seemed to be a lot of bad things going on this weekend from marriage conflict, broken heater unit, no electricity, etc. So I decided to memorize a song with the children ; Turn Your Eyes Upon JESUS.

  21. Happy Birthday Karen! It has been an interesting month. A lot has happened with in our family. However, through it all I am learning to control my emotional eating and I am down 8 lbs this month!

    Have a blessed day!

  22. Happy Birthday Karen! I thank God for you!!!!
I pray that God’s peace that surpasses all understanding guards your heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Enjoy this beautiful day the LORD has made as you keep your eyes on Jesus. I love Psalm 139 and try to read it when it’s someone’s or my birthday! Sending lots of love with much gratitude. Praying for you.

  23. Happy birthday, Karen! I hope your stress level goes down so you can enjoy the day. :)

This has been one of the roughest weeks I’ve ever had. My emotions have been a mess, and I have not made good food choices…I thought of you last night when my husband ran to pick up some Wendy’s, knowing I really should get the small chili, but I ordered a greasy fish sandwich and french fries instead.

It feels good to fess up though, and I’m ready to turn over a new leaf (again!) today. I’m so thankful that God’s mercies are new every morning, and He will carry me through this tough time (even if I’m several pounds heavier than I should be!). I’m also thankful for the encouragement of your blog.

Hope to see you this weekend!
