Real Moms Real Jesus Giveaway with Jill Savage

When I first had kids, I used to have misguided notions about what “real moms” did.

I thought real moms never needed to use a pacifier.

After three weeks of practically no sleep with my first newborn, I desperately popped the one the hospital gave us into her mouth…..and slept for 6 hours straight!

I used to think real moms never needed to holler at their kids.

In the past 19 years….well let’s just say on occasion I’ve had a touch of laryngitis.

I used to think real moms had toddlers and children who never misbehaved in public.

Boy am I glad when my kids were little there wasn’t the humiliating one-two punch of cell phones with cameras combined with Youtube!

I used to think real moms could figure this mothering thing out on their own…….you know “mother’s intuition”.

It only took me a few days to discover that real moms need each other……and Jesus.

And I know the ultimate go-to place for moms to find both— Hearts at Home!

My friend Jill Savage began this fabulous mom place with a handful of friends and a whole lot of Jesus in her little living room in Central Illinois back in the early 1990’s.

Now it is an international lifeline of encouragement and information for all moms at all stages. The national conference is next weekend in Bloomington, Illinois.

That conference has changed my life.

Each year since beginning as an attendee and transitioning to a presenter, Jesus has met me there.

Sometimes He nudges me about my mothering.

Other times he cleans up my marriage.

Other years He guides me in my homemaking.

Sometimes He just lets me laugh with old & new friends alike as together we tackle this mothering thing.

So check out “Hearts” by clicking here. It isn’t to late to attend this next conference.

Or check out the remaining conferences for the year. (If you can come to the Colorado one where I’ll be speaking, I’d LOVE to meet you!)

Or take a trip through the resources on the website and give yourself an early Mother’s Day gift for a real mom.

Jill is giving one to a soon-to-be-smiling mom today here on my site.

Her encouraging book Real Moms, Real Jesus just might be the shot-in-the-arm you need.

What does Jesus know about the peanut-butter-and-jelly life of a mom? Plenty!

In chapters that examine key behaviors and decisions Jesus made during His life on earth, Jill brings those lessons right down to the laundry-filled, sticky-fingered days every mother knows.

Throughout Real Moms…Real Jesus, Jill helps you see that you have a Friend and Savior who understands—

  • never getting time alone
  • high demands
  • lack of sleep
  • betrayal
  • disappointment

Between the chapters are interactive vignettes that turn the concept of the book back around.

If the meat of the content is looking at Jesus’ life on earth and understanding how to apply that in our everyday lives, these perspective vignettes are brief, refreshing glimpses starting with our own messy, busy lives.

Jill continually reminds the reader that Jesus is not an unattainable deity, but a Friend who understands.

So girlfriends & fellow moms, if you’d like a shot at winning a signed copy of this helpful mommy manual, then leave a comment on this post.

You can tell us what ‘real mom’ activities you have planned for this weekend.

Or simply say “I’m in”. Winner will be chosen randomly & announced on Monday.

I’ll go first.

My real mom weekend consists of a little catching up on paperwork & spring cleaning from when I was sick. However, I will be taking a brief break to perform one of my most favorite real mom duties……

Cheering my son on at the JV state homeschool basketball tournament  when his team plays in the finals on Saturday. Whoo-hoo!!! Go Warriors!!!!!!!!!!

Okay…now what is on your real mom agenda? I’d love to know!

Real Jesus Blessings,

  1. My weekend was going to start on Thursday with a drive to Bloomington, Il. for the national conference. Unfortunately that won’t be happening now…SOOOO…we will be having a family fun night on Friday at our church, Saturday will consist of a little of everything, laundry, grocery shopping, and a trip to the park!

  2. My real mom weekend consisted of getting the house clean and trying to get my almost 6 year old daughter on board with the concept of doing her chores.

  3. Well I don’t know why, I’ll call it God’s blessing for sure, but I’ve never had any illusion on being supermom. I fail a lot, love a lot, yell a lot, get tough on myself a lot, but I know God loves me just as I am. Still, ALL of us moms needs support and encouragement. This book has been on my wish list for a while now.
So what was my mom weekend like? Saturday time to get booster seat for my almost 5 yr old and lunch out as a family. Sunday we all look forward to church even with a downpour going on here in NJ and with pregnant momma not feeling too well today. But it was a great weekend because we were all together. Not perfect but loving each other anyway. That’s all I could want.

  4. This weekend was full – both of our boys were involved with Kid’s Sunday at our church. So Saturday was the final rehearsal, then soccer & Blue/Gold Cub Scout Banquet, then Sunday both services at Kid’s Sunday! So as a Real mom, I was the taxi driver, costume/uniform- provider/cleaner and then the proud parent with the boys accomplishments. Housework will wait until during the week- I’m sure the dust bunnies won’t run away!

  5. My “real mom” weekend has included a family wedding and now working on a school project with my daughter. Oh, and I can’t say enough about “Hearts at Home”. I’ve gone since 2004. There’s just something about being with a few thousand other moms who feel just like you do that builds a mom up!

No matter if it’s the good, bad or ugly mom who goes to the conference, a refueled and refocused mom comes home ready to be mom and wife again! If you haven’t taken the opportunity to go – treat yourself!! You will NOT be disappointed! Oh, and take a girlfriend or two along. It’ll be the best gift to yourself and your family.

  6. Ooh, my real mom activities for this weekend include some writing, hopefully some picking up around the house, some fellowship time, but most importantly, some chasing-my-toddler-around-while-he-giggles time! I love the weekends when my husband and I can both spend time together with our son.

    Thanks for this opportunity!

  7. My real mom moment tonight was attempting a “trim” for my boys’ hair – while they were in the tub. That’s normally a good place to cut their hair, as they’re happy. My 2&1/2 yr old was screaming while I just touched his hair. All I managed to do for him was barely touching up around his ears. My 4 yr old was a bit more patient, so he has more of an overall cut. After he was out of the tub, I asked him to come with me back to the bathroom so I could get around his neck.
Why did I have to type all of this? Not sure…
Suffice to say – HAIRCUTS for me are a real mom moment sometimes. (Other times it’s almost therapeutic to cut my boys’ hair – weird, I know… that’s for another comment! ;-D)
Oh yes, and all of that leaning over the tub made my back hurt. Thank You, Lord, for my children!!

  8. I would love to receive a copy of Jill’s book. As a mom of four small children, it’s nice to be able to set aside time from our busy schedule to read a book that will help me be a better mom!

  9. Wanted to come back and say I hope your son won his game, but mostly had fun either way. That is quite an accomplishment win or lose.

  10. I’m in! My mommy weekend agenda was to get my youngest daughters pictures taken and get new running shoes. Neither of those have happened, daughter got sick in the car on the way to get the pictures. There will be another time! Thanks!

  11. I’m in! We just returned from a few days away, so now it is time to catch up at home – “The real world!”

  12. Sports are finally done for our children for a while. This weekend, I am planning to catch up on some cleaning, and other organizational “TO DOs”. I’ve arranged for my children’s friends to come over for a play date, and I have another chapter of my Made to Crave Bible Study to get through before my Monday morning meeting with my accountability partners. And of course, our Sunday Worship with other believers. This book sounds great, and my hope is that whomever wins the free copy, will be blessed by it.

  13. I’m in! I’ve certainly felt that I had failed as as a “real” mom. Thank God we have a REAL Jesus that knows exactly what we are dealing with and how we feel!

  14. My weekend consist of cleaning. After everyone in the house has been sick for 2 weeks it seems that the house has fallen apart. A tornado of sorts has went through and the place is a disaster! Of course, I do have to do this while caring and playing with 3 young children so we shall see how much really gets done! :)

  15. I’m a new mom to a 5-month old little boy… so I’ll be changing diapers and playing peek-a-boo… and wishing I had time to clean my house!

  16. This weekend, we have a full agenda of fun, family things. Our 9-year-old son has his final basketball game today and then the awards ceremony for end of the season tomorrow. He plays through Upward sports, which is an awesome Christian-based sport league focused on Christlikeness and character. Also, we are taking a trip to Borders as a family and going to a charity pancake breakfast, which my 2 1/2 year old will love. For church tomorrow, we are having a surprise “blackout Sunday” for our Pastor…he’s turning 50 and everyone’s wearing black! LOL. We’ll have a lunch afterward in his honor! :)

  17. Our children are both grown and no longer live under my roof, but you never stop being a mom! This weekend, I am making a casserole for a funeral dinner, planning my children’s church lesson, and cleaning my house. But my “real mom ” activity is to be prepared to go to my daughter’s house should she call because her husband has a kidney stone, her 6 month old has RSV, and her 2 year old has a cold–so if she needs me, I am there! I told her if she needs me I could me there in an hour–and I will!

  18. My real mom agenda for this weekend is to clean out our little building full of memories and find the little outfit my baby daughter wore home from the hospital. And get it clean and ready for the arrival of my first granddaughter.

  19. My husband is out of town for work and my two children and I are having a camp out in the living room tonight. Laundry, grocery shopping & cleaning too!
