The nine foot wonder scooped up our attention. Such a thing of beauty with a price tag double our budget. As we meandered passed by this gorgeous tree, we couldn’t help overhear their conversation.
“I want the tallest, largest tree!” In case her husband didn’t hear, she raised her voice a few decibels each time she reiterated her desire. Her kids joined in; their petitions echoed across the tree lot. “We want the biggest tree! We want the biggest tree!”
Of course they wanted that magnificent tree. It was glorious; perfectly round with no missing limbs. I could all but see her visions of it illuminating her home, dazzling from floor to ceiling.
But that tree was meant to nestle in another home.
Our family has chosen our Christmas tree from the same lot for over a decade. The sweet fellas who own it graciously do all the work. After showing them the meager tree we’d picked out, they cut and loaded it on top our car.
Not until the tree was secure in its stand and upright in our living room did it dawn on us: the grand tree had made its way home with us!
We oohed and aahed and clapped and cheered! Who would have guessed a simple mix-up and three extra feet of a Fraser fir could bring so much delight?
That tree filled our home with glowing delight for one month. But the joy of unexpectedly receiving something lovely and desired has lived in our memories.
We re-tell this story each year. It was a small treat in the grand scheme of things, but a sweet treat nonetheless. I pray this season holds several unexpected, grace-filled surprises for you too.

What is hanging on your front door?
I have a handmade colonial swag with a pineapple, oranges, apples, lemons and limes that my daughter and I made in 1996. First time I let her use a glue gun. :-)

Ten years ago my grandmother passed away. Every year since then we have hung the wreath on our door that she use to hang on hers.

Hanging on our door is a plaque, with our name on it, given to us as a wedding present.
Hanging on front door is a gorgeous wreath with a plaque in middle reminding us that Jesus is The true meaning of The Season :)
Currently have nothing on my front door! In need of a new wreath as matter of fact. ;)
I would have never guessed coffee filters either =) I have a beautiful green one done in silver and blue. (My very talented sister made it for me)
I wanted to spend some time and make a felt wreath I saw on pinterest, but since I was in a hurry to get decorations put up before I went out of town, I just threw a wreath together with some ribbon and ornaments…..it’s better than nothing, but hopefully I can get my felt wreath put together before Christmas is over
Nothing yet. I have the making for a wreath but I haven’t gotten it put together yet. I am doing that tonight because I will be home alone for tonight. I will have the quiet and peacefulness I need to get it put together.

Oh my, thank you for the reminder that I forgot to put my Christmas wreath out. Currently on my front door is an over-the-door wreath hanger less a wreath.

Coffee Filters—would have never guessed; so pretty. We have a grapevine wreath that stays year round– it hangs above the door. A bird family loves to make a nest in the top every spring.

Nothing on the front door yet. last year, I took apart the wreath I made 10 years ago to update it. Haven’t gotten to that yet.

A beautiful wreath that I bought and decorated with a big red bow, a few small, sparkling Poinsettias, a few small present shaped ornaments, some small pinecones and of course some beautiful white lights! :)
I have a several beautiful wreaths and I try to rotate them year by year.

We don’t hang a wreath on our door, ours hang from all 4 of the windows along the front of our house. Simple pine wreaths with a bright red bow.
