Hurry Up and Wait
So, while waiting for my daily Bible reading plan to load the verse of the day, the screen shot looked like this:
Notice the verse is on waiting. And I was waiting for it to load!
Is that not a perfect picture of life sometimes? We are waiting on the Lord, but He seems to be taking his sweet old time “loading” the answer.
Do you, like me, need to learn to wait?
This verse has always puzzled me:
“But if we hope for what we do not see,ย we eagerly wait for it with patience.” Romans 8:25 (ESV)
How can you “eagerly” wait with “patience”? Doesn’t eager seem to scream the opposite of patient?
But, if God tells us to do it, it must be possible. Will you join me in the school of waiting with patience?
List what your “wait” training issue is. I’d love to pray for you.
Lord, grant us patience when we want to forge ahead of You and make things happen on our own. Help us to remember that You are God and we are not. Amen
This encouraged me so much…thank you! As I was reading, I was thinking about a time when I knew I needed to step away from my more “public” kinds of ministry (singing at church, speaking, be “up front” kinds of things) so that I could focus on my most important ministry – my family! I needed to build my husband up as he was feeling left in the dust, spiritually. I needed him to lead. As I stepped back from public things to “wait on the Lord” for the more public ministry I desired and fit with my giftedness, I eagerly did so by preparing behind the scenes…that’s truly how I became a writer. My preparation was unnoticed, but I was READY when God opened the door for me to be “up front” again. And He so blessed this obedience as He raised my husband up to lead us all and he is now my greatest encourager. Now…we are waiting on the Lord’s timing for me to go into ministry full-time, as I scale back from my full-time job. Trusting in His amazing provision!! Thanks for your wonderful encouragement.
I wanted to let you know how perfect your post was yesterday for me. My husband and I are in the process of adopting a little girl from Russia (we have three biological sons). We were just told Tuesday evening that we can now expect to wait another 6 months or more. We have already been waiting for over a year and have now started the conversation of “What if this truly isn’t God’s plan for us? How long can we keep waiting and putting other areas of our lives on hold while we try to save money and keep paying for updated paperwork? And most importantly, how long does our daughter have to live in an orphanage instead of with our family?” I will definitely be printing out Romans 8:25 to put on my fridge so that I can be reminded of it daily. Thank you!
My wait issue is two-fold. My husband and I have been diligently working on getting out of debt for the last three years. Somedays it is hard to wait with patience and not give up and go back to our old spending habits.
The other part of the equation is that we both are ready to move, since both of our children are grown and we have no family living close to us. The waiting with patience part involves being debt-free before we make the big move.
I am in a very busy season of life with my children, homeschooling and family health issues. God is working and answering prayers and we are blessed. I am just waiting for some quality time alone and also with my husband. The day will come when I am not so tired and weary…until then I am waiting.
Please pray for my husband and I. We’ve been separated for 2 1/2 years and I can tell you a bit about WAITING…..it’s not fun and not PRETTY! But it does build character and perseverance in us. It really DOES draw us closer to our Lord.
Recently, I found myself praying, “Lord FILL MY VISION!!” I want God to be so big that all of my problems appear so small in light of Him. I know that sounds like the words of one who is “super spiritual” but it’s not…it’s called survival.
My husband is a former Pastor and knows better than to file for divorce. He knows better. Still, satan has led him astray and he’s on the wrong path. He filed for a divorce and the judge declined it! THAT NEVER HAPPENS TODAY! You can sneeze and get a divorce (sadly….).
Please pray for reconciliation and a true “Damasacus Road” experience for him that will turn him completely around in his wrong thinking and come back home to his loving (waiting….) wife!
Thank you and bless you all!

Kathleen– Asking God for a big miracle in your marriage!
I need to be patient on my job. I love my job & what I do, but there is a lack of professionalism from supervisors, mangers, and other staff. I believe that this is where God has for me to be in this season and I will endure it as a good solider!! Please pray for my strength & for me to be able to wait it out and not quit! Thanks!’
I will. Hang in there!
I am waiting on the healing of my husband after a stroke 2 years ago. We continue to ask for complete healing, but are trying to live in the moment as well.
We’ve experienced a few stokes in our family. Such hard work to recover. Praying!
my husband had an emergency appendectomy late Sunday nite. He has a high fever that won’t break. i feel helpless at times. I know that God knows the circumstances and he is with my husband. i am eager and trying to be patient. All in the lord’s timing.
Oh dear. Praying for his recovery to come quick!
I am waiting on a husband. I know my desire is a godly one and I hope its what God wants for me too.
Praying He brings you His very best. I admire you for waiting for a godly one. So many do not.
