Are you a mom? Ever feel worn out and weary from plugging away at this often over-looked role in society?
My friend Sally Clarkson, author, speaker and homeschooling mentor, has been there. She is a wise and gentle friend whose words and prayers have helped so many moms keep a proper perspective while in the trenches of motherhood.
Sally is the mother of four children, a popular conference speaker, and the author of numerous books and articles on Christian motherhood and parenting, including The Mission of Motherhood, The Ministry of Motherhood, and Seasons of a Mother’s Heart. In 1994, she and Clay started Whole Heart Ministries to encourage and equip Christian parents to raise wholehearted Christian children. Since 1998, Sally has ministered to thousands of mothers through Mom Heart Conferences, and more recently through her blog, ITakeJoy.com (for Christian women).
Today, I am giving away a copy of each of her books below:
The Ministry of Motherhood
In a personal and devotional style, Sally addresses how a mother can spiritually shape and influence the precious hearts and lives entrusted to her care by looking to the life and ministry of Jesus. She examines the relationship between Jesus and his disciples, and suggests a plan for influencing children for Christ using the acrostic GIFTS: Grace, Inspiration, Faith, Training and Service. It is an uncomplicated yet strategic plan for passing on crucial gifts to your children. In the dailyness of providing for your children’s physical, emotional, and social needs, Sally helps you ensure that vital opportunities for spiritual nurture and training are not lost in the shuffle. Using biblical wisdom and practical teachings, Sally shows how you can make a lasting difference in your child’s life by following the pattern Christ set with his own disciples. The LifeGIFTS model will inspire and equip you to embrace the rewarding, desperately needed, and immeasurably valuable ministry of motherhood.
In The Mission of Motherhood Sally explores the “big picture” biblical design of God for motherhood. It is a vision that transcends cultures and trends.
Drawing on challenging insights from Scripture enlightened by her own experiences as a mother for 18 years, Sally paints a biblical and very personal portrait of motherhood that reveals the heart of God for all mothers of all times. This book, filled with personal anecdotes and stories, will refresh your vision for biblical motherhood, renew your commitment to your precious children, and prayerfully bring the reviving Spirit of God into your home and family.
GIVEAWAY:
If you’d like to be entered in the drawing to win a copy of either of Sally’s encouraging books, leave a comment telling us about your mothering. What are your kids ages? Their interests? Your current greatest mothering challenge. Any “mom talk” you’d like.

Oh goodness…motherhood has been a hard transition for me. Currently I have both a 3.5 boy & 2.5 girl. They are wonderful to play w/ watch learn, of course challenges. So far motherhood has been the mortar & pestle of sin awareness for me. I’ve seen so much in my heart I didn’t know was in there before the birth of my little man. Seeing His grace & learning to live in His strength, not mine, has been a hard way of life. I’ve heard great things about Sally’s books & would be SO BLESSED to get either!
We have 3 girls ages 10, 7, and 2, with another girl on the way (due Thanksgiving). Although there’s only a 5 year gap between the middle two, I feel like I’ve forgotten all of the skills to teach a little one. I don’t want to neglect the oldest while I’m needing to spend more time taking care of the youngest.
I am a home educating mom of 2 challenging boys (9 & 7) that I love dearly. Recently my challenge has been patience, (patience, patience and more patience) and living in the loving way of “slow to anger, rich in kindness.”
I have one daughter, age 8 and a son, age 5. Right now I feel like time is just marching by and I want to savor and capture all of the moments I can with them. I want to be more intentional about my time and mission as a mother.
I am the mom to a 16 year old daughter and a 13 year old son. I have been a full time mom since my oldest was 2 1/2 years old and recently started working full time again. I love my children. My greatest challenge is not pushing my children too hard to excel.
We are parents of a 9 y.o.. girl who loves reading and horseback riding and a 5 y.o. boy who loves sports and beginning piano lessons. My biggest challenge is not comparing them as well as building them up daily instead of focusing on correcting them.
I have three girls, 7, 5, 1, and another baby on the way! These books would be a blessing to me too. My greatest mothering challenge is wanting to be that loving mother who is ever patient and kind, always gracious when their child makes a mistake that is totally age -appropriate and not willfully defiant. But I feel that I get impatient and irritated far too easily. I read 1 Corinthians 13 and am SO convicted every time. I have been praying to the Lord to please help me to become more patient, more kind, bearing and enduring all things. But it is so hard! I know I need to *choose* to act in a more patient and kind manner, but it is very difficult for me to do!
I am the mom of a 16 yo old boy and a 9 yo girl. We are want more children but I had a hysterectomy in 2008 so we are looking into adoption. I provide childcare for 2 little girls one is a 3 1/2 yo girl who was adopted from China 2 yrs ago and is special needs, the other is a 11 mo girl. My son loves anything hands on but really loves hunting and fishing and is looking at being a game warden. My daughter is crafty and creative and is always working on something and loves playing the piano.. Not sure where God is taking her. But I’m excited to see. I’m really struggling with the independence of the teen years, sometimes wish they were both young again. I love being a stay at home mom but I have unfortunately let myself get burnt out on outside the home activities an he little left for my family much less the two littles I care for. Really working with God to clear the schedule once again and to let Him transform my heart and attitude in my daily repetive life of being home. Thank you for the chance to wine these books, either one would be a huge blessing for me right now.
Being a mom of an 18 year old daughter, 14 year old son and 4 year old special-needs daughter is an amazing blessing…but also a challenge! With all of the ages/stages come a lot of different needs/wants and attitudes!! Counting on God to carry me through all of the stages of motherhood…while trying to embrace/enjoy each one!
I just love being a mom but sometimes I need more support. My son is clever, creative and loves to play, read and go, go, go! I love to read and Sally Clarksons books have been on my wish list. Thanks, Heather
I am always looking for ways to encourage my children.
I have a 10 year old girl and two fifteen year old boys. Hanna loves reading, dancing and singing. Jacob and Jarryd are at opposite ends of the spectrum, Jacob is into gaming and Jarryd is into sports. I love my children with all my heart, but mothering them can be a challenge. The boys and school is my challenging area right now. Lots of praying at night for them!
Mine are 4 and 2- a boy and girl. Praying and praying that we will show them Jesus and that they’ll love Him!!
Hi Karen! I’m a mom to a 7 year-old girl and a 4 year-old boy. My biggest mom challenge is dealing with girly drama, if you know what I mean! lol (I’m never going to survive the teenage years!)
I am a mom of 2, a two year old boy and a daughter that lives in heaven. My son loves all things transportation – trucks, cars, trains :) My biggest challenge right now is keeping him safe when we are in public. He is an explorer!
I have read mission but not ministry so I would love these! my biggest struggle is keeping priorities straight, with 6 little ones, all 8 and under, I feel pulled many directions constantly and a challenge to get everything done!
I have two boys who are not quite 2years apart-6 and4 years old. Though some may have many more children than I do some days i feel like my two have the activity level of multiple children! I struggle with health issues and that is mega hard since my boys are so busy and I am so tired and in pain so much. Plus with mega marriage troubles added into the mix the days can be long. BUT I love my boys and pray each day. I pray I’d have more patience and a gentler tongue.. are there any other moms who having coping tips ( tips that are simple and practical) for a mom of busy boys who is so tired and in pain yet I desire to raise them in Gods way BUT how to work through the fog of pain and tiredness I’m sure God is there and faithful but it’s getting hard very hard!
I have a 6, 4, and 20 month old. This is my second year homeschooling. The biggest challenge I have right now is keeping the little guy entertained while we get school work done! We’ve started schooling during his nap time and so far that is working. Second to that would be keeping the house in some kind of order. :)
Homeschooling mother of five. Our oldest two, twins, are freshman in College and we have a senior , first grader and Kindergartener. Yes we have finished and then only beginning our journey with homeschooling and motherhood. Love Sally’s books! Her encouragement over the years have been so helpful. My biggest challenge at this time are learning difficulties that our youngest two struggle with and patience on my part to help them in a Godly way. There are more to life than ABC’s and 1,2,3’s and I need to remind myself of that daily.
