Once upon a time, I was a young mom who needed a few ideas and a lot of encouragement.

I wanted so badly to be a good mom. I’d been raised by a wonderful mom so I thought somehow it would just come naturally. That it was in my blood.

Although I loved my toddler and newborn immensely, I sometimes came up against issues and situations where I wasn’t sure what to do. So, I could ask my mom. Or a friend who was a mom. But still, I had so many other questions that were about specific things they had no experience with. And I deeply desired ideas for both raising and loving my kids. And I also wanted advice for keeping my marriage healthy during this often exhausting stage.

One day a friend handed me a mothering magazine.  In the back was a blurb about a conference just for moms. There were going to be all sorts of workshops on mothering, marriage, and even fun things like decorating or cooking. I saw that this conference was just about 5 hours from my home. So, I registered and my little family of four trekked off to Bloomington-Normal, IL. I attended the conference all alone while my hubby and the kids hung out at the hotel and came to the event a few times during the day so I could nurse baby Mitchell.

It was one of the best decisions I ever made!

That was 20 years ago next month. Hearts at Home is still going strong. The 2015 National conference is coming up March 13-14th. The founder Jill Savage will be there. And keynotes Lysa Terkeurst of my own Proverbs 31 Ministries and Dr. Gary Chapman the author of The Five Love Languages. I’ll be teaching three workshops and will also be part of the optional Mom’s Night Out Friday featuring the hilarious Ken Davis. And some awesome workshop presenters will be there including Glynnis Whitwer of Proverbs 31, Ruth Schwenk from The Better Mom, Courtney Joseph from Women Living Well, Arlene Pellicane, Dr Juli Slattery, Dannah Gresh, Dr. Kathy Koch and more!

My husband and I are giving away two conference registrations–one for a blog reader and one for her to give to a friend. It will include the conference fee and also tickets for Moms Night Out for both moms–a value of $226. (travel to the conference and hotel accomedations are not included)

So…….leave a comment with who you would take to the conference if you were chosen and why. {PLEASE be sure that you only comment if you are available to go that weekend and can swing the travel and hotel costs.}

Winner announced Saturday at 5 pm.

NOTE: Hearts at Home is offering the “Best Value” registration price through Sunday that includes lunch. On Monday the price will return to normal and will not include lunch.

  1. I would love to attend this. I saw it the other day and thought “oh I want to go!” Though I have a few friends I know would love to go I think I would take my sister. We both have young children and I think it would be a great opportunity for us to have a moms day out!

  2. I would bring a young woman I work with, who I have mentored at the job, and feel like a mother hen to her. She has a young son who has had a couple surgeries since birth to fix a problem with how his skull formed. Her husband is working out of town for a few months until he gets insurance to cover the expenses of their son. She is a single mom during the week until her husband comes home on the weekend. She is a pretty amazing woman.

  3. I would give away both registrations to friends, as I’m already signed up to volunteer! Hearts at Home has made SUCH a difference that I can’t imagine the mom I’d be otherwise!

  4. I’d bring my friend Susan. She is a homeschooling mom of 4 with no family in town (like me). She would be so blessed by the real authentic, not perfect speakers I love at Hearts at Home. She needs a break, and I would love to bless her with a refreshing mom weekend :).

  5. I would bring my mother because she is in need of encouragement lately. I feel like she could use a time to renew and refresh and reconnect with God.

  6. I am a part time music teacher and part time SAHM with 3 wonderfully unique boys on the autism spectrum. Refreshing time out for me is few and far between as my husband is also a preacher, works full time and is also a full time seminary student, and we also just can’t swing it financially this year. I would love to take my sister in law with me- she is also experiencing some pretty severe financial constraints and is a SAHM who homeschools her three kids. This would be a great time of bonding, spiritual refreshment, and quality time spent in the presence of other moms and in the Lord.

  7. I am a SAHM to 4 kids including triplets and really want to come so I can rejuvenate and be a better mom. I would bring my friend Shelly who also is a SAHM to 3 kids. She homeschools her kiddos and her husband works a lot. We both really want to come and share the experience with other moms!!

  8. I would like to spend time with my mom, Maria. I have two very young children and we don’t get to spend a lot of time with her because she lives in Oh and I live in Il, so this weekend would be wonderful. We haven’t seen each other in over a year and I miss her dearly. I would like to take her to conference and connect her :) thank you for offering!! Have a great weekend, stay warm!

  9. I would love to attend a conference and bring a friend who has recently had to deal with foot surgery and losing a sister-in-laws to cancer. We both have kids under 10 years old and we are doing this motherhood journey together and working part time outside the home. For me, I don’t always take time to fill my mom tank with the fuel we all need, and lately have turned to food for comfort although I need to turn to Him. Motherhood can feel lonely even when I have people around me all the time. Today is the first day of the rest of my life and I intend to begin fresh and new.

  10. I would bring my sister in law who has her first newborn baby and is trying to find the balance between being mom, wife, and employee.

  11. I would bring my friend MaryBeth, mom of 4. She’s not been to a conference. We were just discussing this one a few weeks ago but it didn’t look possible for this year. We are reading your book Keep It Shut now. This conference would be a blessing!
