one-sentence-eulogyWelcome to those who have clicked your way over after reading my Proverbs 31 Ministries devotion Your One Sentence Eulogy.  To read the devotion, click here…but be sure to come back to enter the giveaway in honor of my new book that launches today!

TODAY IS THE DAY!!

My newest book, Listen, Love, Repeat: Other-Centered Living in a Self-centered World is now available in stores and online. There is also a DVD Bible study series with workbook that accompanies the book!

Here is a short description:

Newest book by New York Times bestselling author Karen Ehman! Our culture is self-obsessed – in our schedules, relationships, and especially online. (Can you say selfie?) But in this near-narcissism, people are less content than in decades past. Why? Because we forgot the joy that comes from putting others first. Doing so requires us to live alert, listening for “heart drops,” hints from those in our lives who need a helping hand or a generous dose of encouragement. Living alert lifts our own spirits, showing us that blessing others blesses us even more.

Listen, Love, Repeat offers biblical teaching and suggests doable actions that are simple, heart-tugging, sentimental, even sneaky and hilarious. This message:

• Presents scriptural examples of those who lived alert, including Jesus, who noticed those who least expected to be seen.

• Gives creative ideas for showing love to friends and family, and suggests practical ways to reach out to the lonely, the marginalized, the outcast, and the odd duck. Additionally, it helps you comfort the grieving, showing what you can do when you don’t know what to say.

• Provides inspiration for blessing the “necessary people” in your life, those often-overlooked souls who help you get life done every day, and teaches you how to hug a porcupine by genuinely loving the hard-to-love.

Now for the giveaways!

GIVEAWAY to celebrate Karen Ehman's new book Listen, Love, Repeat: Other-Centered Living in a Self-Centered World.

In my Proverbs 31 devotion, I mentioned two items I have in my kitchen–my big red cast iron soup pot and my “scatter kindness” sign.

Well, I am giving away one soup pot, three signs, and 5 copies of the book–that means nine different winners!

The signs are made by a new friend I met when she was in the audience for the filming of the Bible study sessions for the book. You can check out Audrey’s fabulous work at The Cowboy’s Wife Sign Company. (Head to her Facebook page and give her a “like”?)

And now, I’m sharing what often goes in my big red pot–my recipe for cheesy corn chowder!

Cheesy Ham & Corn Chowder

Hands-down my family’s favorite soup. I make it at least two or three times a month and when I do, their friends come running!

In a large pot combine:

4 cups chicken stock (or 4 cups water with bouillon cubes to taste)

4 cups chopped, peeled Yukon Gold potatoes

1 chopped onion

1/2 cup chopped celery

Cook, covered, over medium heat for 30 minutes or until potatoes are tender. Then add:

3 tablespoons butter

1–2 cups finely chopped leftover ham

1 1/2 cups leftover corn

2 cans cream of chicken soup

1 1/2 cups sharp cheddar cheese

Just before serving, add:

8 ounces sour cream.

Thin with a little milk if needed. Stir well. Serves 8–10.

If you’d like to enter to win the soup pot, a “scatter kindness” sign, or a copy of the book, there are two options.

First, If you don’t have social media, please tell us your favorite image below and also tell someone about the book. You could even forward the Proverbs 31 devotion from today or send them the link to this post. Old fashioned talking face-to-face works too. ;-)

  1. I shared the kindness quote-it’s so true that that is a very effective way to share the Gospel. I’d love to win a copy of your new book!!

  2. Karen your book has been a blessing to me this week as I prepare to share my home with 26 people for thanksgiving!!!! Your words to remember my home doesn’t have to be perfect to bless others has resounded with me this week. And every time I hear a heart tap I get excited and write it down. Thank you for this book and your real words. Happy thanksgiving.

  3. I am very excited to read this book! It speaks to my heart with spreading God’s Word and kindness in an unpredictable world! On Pinterest and Facebook, I posted the picture with the phrase Jesus wasn’t about big things, but about small things that make a difference. I chose this because we can all do little things in our lives to help others, even with our already busy schedules! Usually it’s those small things that we don’t realize make the most impact! We can also do small things daily.

  4. Hello!
I posted the first picture to Twitter. I love the saying “use your ordinary life for God’s extraordinary purposes.” That is one of my prayers every day….God use me, let me be a reflection of You and be the light to anyone who needs it. Amen! :)

  5. Hi! I pinned “Use your ordinary life for God’s extraordinary purposes.” :) Thank you for sharing these. Thinking of my One Sentence Eulogy, it would read something like this: “Faithful in the Kingdom of God.” I had a word spoken over me many years ago that said you are dependable in the Kingdom of God. :) I think that goes with faithful – I surely hope so. So, I might change it, as I think now of this: “Faithful/Dependable in the Kingdom of God.” Praise God for Holy Spirit Who keeps me faithful and helps me be dependable. May God continue to bless you richly, Karen.

  6. I shared -“use your ordinary life for God’s extraordinary purposes!” I feel like my life is very ordinary and wonder from time to time if I’m being used by God. I pray that my eyes and heart will be open to opportunities to be His hands and feet– to do His will. Your book would help me tremendously. God bless you.

  7. I shared on Pinterest. I like the one with the trailers. We are rv-res and that is perfect. Thank you for giveaway.

  8. I had the blessing of reading Listen Love Repeat. I have to say I laughed; I cried, and when I was finished I was STARVING! It was simply beautiful in every way. It was encouraging, thought provoking and inspirational. I felt like I was at Momma Karen’s table! I appreciated your story about the ambush of grief. My best friend passed away last year with brain cancer, and I was recently in a department store and walked by the hats and burst into tears. She loved hats with class ( her little saying), and she could pull off any hat! My heart still aches, but I know she is whole and happy to be with Jesus.

As a result of her life, I’m beginning a new project called, Hats From Helga and collecting caps, scarves, and hats for women who have lost their hair due to cancer and donating them to local hospitals in Helga’s memory.

The world does need more seeds of kindness to be scattered, and I love the many practical, simple ideas anyone can incorporate into their life. Thank You for always speaking to my heart and for sharing seeds of kindness.

May His Blessings Flow Over Your Soul…Thanks for being my JesusGlitter :-)

  9. I Tweeted the one with the plants (about Jesus not about big things but right things!).

I should make some graphics for the other quotes I like. I love that this book is to inspire action, not just make us feel good and then leave it on a shelf.

  10. Thank you for the timely reminder. I am sometimes better at scattering kindness outside of my home then inside. Last night was one of those difficult nights and I most certainly did not scatter kindness. I love the sign as a reminder inside our homes as well.as outside.

  11. I would love to win the items you mentioned in your giveaway especially would love a copy of this book! My favorite image is the last one, the coffee mug with the message about listening for heart drops :)

  12. I shared the ordinary life photo on Facebook! We each may live an ordinary life, but we can use it for God’s extraordinary purposes! God is good and He is faithful!!! Amen!!!

  13. Share Romans 12:10 , because in this day and age. We need to be remind ..to be devoted to one another in love ! Mentioned to go to your website for the book also,,,listenloverepeat.com. Never have read your book before, but loved reading your piece in Proverbs ministries and peaked my interest, Love the sign scatter kindness…brought memories back of my Grandmother….She was a Godly woman and it was one of Her sayings also!! I need to get look for a sign like that on the website you gave and will look for your books….thanks for the inspiration…..Blessings to you!

  14. I love how you open your home to us! It really makes me stop and think about how special my home is to me. I would love to win one of your items! I LOVE the phrase Scatter Kindness! My father was such a kind person as was his mother and his brothers and sisters. When I am describing my dad, I always say he was so kind, the kindest person I have ever met. The word kind has such a special place in my heart! I want to be remembered as being kind too!

  15. I pinned the picture of the camper. It reminded me of our summer time camping trips as a family and with friends. It’s time we take to make memories as a family, and have endless time to build into our kids, and speak into their lives. Good reminder that I can also do that in the cold, in our home and our community!
