My guest today is my fellow First 5 app Bible teacher, and brand new mama, Titania (Nia) Paige. I mean she is a brand new mama, as in less than four weeks! One moment she and I were talking while she was in the waiting room at her doctors and the next thing I knew, she was headed to the hospital to give birth to a sweet baby girl. I’m grateful she found time to give us some Christmas thoughts and a fantastic giveaway. Here’s my friend Nia…

Christmas and giving go hand-and-hand don’t they? This spirit of generosity is inspired by Christ, who gifted us with His presence and His salvation through His sacrifice on the cross. Traditionally, Christmas gifts are exchanged on December 25th, but this year I got an early Christmas gift: my precious first-born daughter, Gabrielle.
Looking ahead to when my husband and I teach Gabrielle about the significance of Christmas, our hope is Christ will be at the center of this cherished celebration. One practical way we plan to resist the commercial and materialistic appeal of Christmas is by having a consistent family devotional time that includes scripture reading, prayer, and meditation on God’s word. Though it’s easy to become distracted by the hustle-and-bustle of the holidays, I can’t wait to teach Gabby how to focus on the true meaning of Christmas through reading God’s word.
Leave us a comment telling us how scripture, or the nativity story, is a part of your celebration of Christmas.

This year we are doing the She Reads Truth Advent cards for kids at dinner time as a way to bring the focus of the season back to Jesus at the end of every day. They have sparked some pretty cool conversation.
Enjoy your husband and enjoy your new girl baby! What a time of celebration you have! Merry Christmas!
We usually read Luke 2 or Matthew’s telling of Jesus’ birth as a family on Christmas eve. This year my youngest son and I are reading through the book of Luke together.
We have an advent calendar that tells part of the nativity story each day. I’m pretty sure it was mine when I was small but we still keep bringing it out :-)
Every Christmas I put out my Grandmother’s ceramic painted Nativity set and we read the Christmas story in Luke about Christ’s birth. Our family looks forward to this every year to keep us focused on the true meaning of Christmas!
Our family takes turns reading the Christmas story from God’s word before any presents are opened on Christmas day. We start in Micah and finish in Luke.
I have the nativity scene my parents started out with in 1966 when they were first married. I cherish it every year. It’s nothing extravagant but it’s been seeing Christmas for 50+ years now.
We tell the Christmas story all month. We really should do it all year but it is important to me that our kids know why we celebrate Christmas and how lucky we are!
Several years ago, I ordered a set of Christmas ornaments from Pastor Adrian Rogers. This lovely set of ornaments has a Scripture passage on each ornament — both the Messianic prophesies from the Old Testament and the Christmas story from the New Testament.
One ornament is hung on the tree each day, culminating on Christmas day.
What a blessed way to have daily family devotion!

This has given me inspiration to make it a habit to read the word daily. The journal would be a great guide.
Would be nice to get some more structure
