It’s Day 7 of 12 Days of Christmas Giveaways!

If you’re just joining in, start at Day One here.

11th Annual 12 Days of Christmas Giveaways (2018) December 4-15 at karenehman.com.

My guest today is my fellow First 5  app Bible teacher, and brand new mama, Titania (Nia) PaigeI mean she is a brand new mama, as in less than four weeks! One moment she and I were talking while she was in the waiting room at her doctors and the next thing I knew, she was headed to the hospital to give birth to a sweet baby girl. I’m grateful she found time to give us some Christmas thoughts and a fantastic giveaway. Here’s my friend Nia…

Christmas and giving go hand-and-hand don’t they? This spirit of generosity is inspired by Christ, who gifted us with His presence and His salvation through His sacrifice on the cross. Traditionally, Christmas gifts are exchanged on December 25th, but this year I got an early Christmas gift: my precious first-born daughter, Gabrielle.
Looking ahead to when my husband and I teach Gabrielle about the significance of Christmas, our hope is Christ will be at the center of this cherished celebration. One practical way we plan to resist the commercial and materialistic appeal of Christmas is by having a consistent family devotional time that includes scripture reading, prayer, and meditation on God’s word. Though it’s easy to become distracted by the hustle-and-bustle of the holidays, I can’t wait to teach Gabby how to focus on the true meaning of Christmas through reading God’s word.
Leave us a comment telling us how scripture, or the nativity story, is a part of your celebration of Christmas.

Day 7 Giveaway

Nia is giving away a copy of her My Devotional Journal: A 60-Day Guide to Scripture Reading, Meditation, & Prayer, along with a Keep the Faith T-shirt.

  1. Congratulations!!! Nothing in the world even comes close to holding your newborn baby for the first time! At my mom’s on Christmas Eve, the birth of Jesus story from the Bible is read before opening gifts.

  2. We love going through Ann Voskamp’s Unwrapping the Greatest Gift devotional. This is our third year, and I highly recommend it!

  3. My Mother-in-law gave me my very FIRST nativity scene just last weekend! It’s beautiful and I love displaying it proudly on our entertainment center for all to see! I absolutely loved telling my 4 year old about baby Jesus and his Mommy & Daddy. His face lights up and I know this will be a new tradition for us each year…talking about baby Jesus!

  4. I love checking out books at the library about Christmas, and why we celebrate it. There are some great books that my children love about the nativity story!

  5. Each day I explain to my 3 year old what Christmas is all about and why I love it. Which is that Jesus came here to save us, I’m sure to explain to him it’s the celebration of Jesus’ birth. So each year instead of doing Christmas desserts we bake a cake for Jesus and sing happy birthday. He’s 3, and he loves it!

  6. Love the “Keep the faith” tshirt! We always read the Christmas story on Christmas Eve, and have a nativity scene set up in our home.

  7. We enjoy an advent book that daily focuses our family on the true reason for the Christmas season. This year we are going to attend a walk-through nativity.

  8. Congratulations!! What a beautiful joy to share!
I was baking cookies with one of my favorite families the other day and witnessed a wonderful tradition in their home. The scriptures with the Christmas story are all written out on small pieces of paper and placed in a jar. Every night, the children take turns reaching in the jar to pull out a piece of paper and then they get to read the scripture for the night to the family (or get help reading it!). I was impressed with how much enthusiasm each child had about whose turn it was to get that evening’s scripture.

  9. We have read Luke 2 on Christmas morning but now are trying to have the kids read it and then we ask questions about the Birth of Jesus..

  10. Our decorating is never complete without a nativity scene. My youngest child is never happy until it is put out as a center point under the tree. We ensure the nativity is with the tree to remind us Hesus birth is the reason for everything else. When admiring the lights and decorations, you can’t help but see our little reminder of the real reason we celebrate!

  11. We have a storing telling set with pictures for sharing a bit of the Christmas story each day. The kids used to fight over who got to hold the picture cards while I read the story when they were small. They still enjoying reading through the story as teens, but no more fighting over pictures.

  12. We have an advent calendar that tells a part of the nativity story each day. It’s been a tradition in our house since my oldest was a baby.

  13. Attending Christmas Eve Services and reading a book telling the nativity story to my 4 year old. My older two help read the story.

  14. Congratulations on your baby girl! What a wonderful Christmas blessing! It is always a challenge, an important one, to focus more on Christ than the commercialism of the season when we are bombarded with secular festivities of the season! I’ve found that intentionality is the only way to overcome this! I love that you already have plans for this precious child!

  15. My first born daughter was my early Christmas present too this year!! One of my favorite parts of Christmas is the giving – I love to make things for others and shower them with blessings! I’ve never done and advent study, but really hope to this year as I am striving to be intentional about surrounding the holiday with truth!
