Day 4: Favorite Christmas Decoration

Our day four guest is a new friend of mine, Andrea Brouwer, also known as 31 Girl at Home. She is a wife to Jason, mother to Abigail and Caleb, a daughter, sister, caregiver, friend, mentor, dreamer, and most importantly believer in the One True King. She is also a DIY and lifestyle expert. (You’ll want to be sure to follow her on Instagram. ) And now, welcome Andrea!

As a DIY project lover, I love to decorate, especially at the holidays. Besides the nativity that my mother-in-law bought for me piece by piece over the years, I’d have to say my favorite Christmas decorations are our Christmas lights.

My goal for our house has always been to make it a home, and there is nothing better during the holidays than dimming the lights and letting the twinkle of the Christmas lights give your home that magical glow.

For today’s quick question, tell us what your favorite holiday decoration is and also why. Is it an heirloom nativity? A vintage snowman? A lovely tree topper? Answer and you might win my giveaway!

Day 4 Giveaway

Thanks Andrea! For day four, Andrea is giving away a set of three Plant Therapy Holiday Essential Oil Blends and an Opal House Essential Oil Diffuser. To enter, simply answer today’s question below in the comments section. And remember, if you want to be entered to win the grand prize, you must comment on all 12 days!

Hello! I am Andrea and I am the gal behind 31 Girl at Home! I am wife to Jason, mother to Abigail and Caleb, daughter, sister, caregiver, friend, mentor, dreamer, and most importantly believer in the One True King! I started my home decor journey on Instagram as a creative outlet to share our DIY home improvement projects, ideas on how to make your house a home, and other lifestyle content.  It is amazing what can happen when you completely surrender something over to God. My life, marriage, and job are three beautiful examples of that.

  1. As far as the one thing I look forward to, its the tree. I love to plug in the lights every day as soon as I get home. But my most treasured Christmas decoration is my nativity. It was my great-great grandmothers who I never got to meet, but I knew her husband, my pop pop until he died when I was 5. The nativity was given to my mom when she and my dad were married and then when I bought my house, it was given to me.

  2. my favorite decoration is our stockings that my husband’s aunt cross stitched for each of us with our names on them! I will cherish this labor of love.

  3. I have 2 equally favorite Christmas decorations: Every year it’s our Christmas tree— the whole process of going out to the tree farm and choosing the best one, cutting it down and bringing it home, the decorating it and the final product. And the nativity set that my mom made for us 40-some years ago, in a ceramics class.

  4. My favorite decoration is a set of three wise men that my mom made when I was little. The sit out every year at her house.

  5. My favorite decoration is definitely our nativity.
It becomes the focal point each year helping to remind us that the reason for the celebration is Jesus.

  6. I don’t really have one specific favorite decoration. I have favorite ornaments for on our Christmas tree, but not a decoration itself. I suppose that besides the tree, my favorite thing is the village that we put underneath the tree. We put the whole thing on a sheet of plywood and use my grandmother’s dollhouse decorations to create details for the village. My kids love making up stories about who lives in the houses or what’s happening there.

  7. My favorite Christmas decoration is the plastic angel that was on top of the tree for my first Christmas. I am 51 now! She is made of plastic, that has yellowed with time and her glitter wings need refreshing but she is so valuable to me! No matter how fancy my tree ever got, my kids never let me put anything else on the top of our tree.

  8. I have a vintage ceramic Christmas Tree that my Mammaw Suzie made. It has the lights and all. It’s really cool and was made for my Great-grandmother who passed it on to me. Definitely a treasure ?

  9. My most precious decorations are ones my children made in grade school. Some are 40 years old. Each year they are on our tree. Now I have my grandchildren’s on there too.

  10. The star on top of the Christmas tree. It was on our tree growing up and I loved it. It wasn’t well made or of any value, but it just held memories. Unfortunately, it fell apart a few years ago and I miss it every year we put the new star on top.

  11. I love our ‘People Groups’ Advent calendar. It has dolls in it with a card that represents different unreached people groups around the world. We learn about them and specifically pray for the gospel to reach these people so they can know the saving grace of our Lord Jesus.

  12. I have so many that mean so much to me. I have glass ornaments my daughter, husband and I made at a glass blowing studio a couple years ago. I have ornaments my kids made at school with their pictures in them. I have ornaments purchased at an event we went to last year that was amazing. I love filling our tree with memories and meaningful things. It may not all match, but it is beautiful.

  13. My favorite Christmas decoration is my snowglobes that I have collected over the years from family, from self and from my school children. I LOVE the ones that are a combination of globe and music box. While in Japan, we bought lights our first year there that played Christmas tunes – that is really special now too as it takes us back to that beautiful land where God put us for 3 years working in an international Christian school introducing families to Christ. One of the most exciting and humbling experiences of my life – parents coming to the teachers and asking “Could you just tell me about this Jesus that my child is learning about?” and praying and accepting Christ on the sidewalk, in the parking lot and in the classrooms.

  14. Each year, I get my three kiddos a new ornament that holds a photo. My tree is covered in pictures of my kids. I love to look back and see how much they have grown and changed over the years!

  15. It is the first wreath I made as an adult. I’m not crafty and it turned out very well. It feel proud when I look at it.

  16. My favorite ornaments are the ones we get in Leavenworth, WA every year at the Christmas store. It started with my husband and me and almost every year we’ve added a person so now there are six of us in the family. We personalize it with our names and it’s a reminder of our blessings!

  17. My favorite ornament is actually our angel on top of the tree. I bought her about 35 years ago for $40 (which was a lot) but her wings move and she is holding a candle in one hand. She’s beautiful!
