My most memorable Christmas:

The Whittle Family :-)

One Christmas, my husband and children and I all sat by the tree and with candles lighting the room, we each chose our favorite ornament and talked about why it was our favorite.

My middle son was only about 7 at the time, and there were many favorite ornaments I imagined him choosing: his cool Power Ranger one…the funny Scooby Doo one his grandmother had gotten him…or the crazy-looking reindeer one he’d made in class.  But when it came time for him to share, he walked over to the tree and thoughtfully made his selection.

He held out his hand to expose his favorite ornament: a rugged looking cross with the words etched across the top, very simply: JESUS.  As he looked up, his eyes were filled with tears and his lip quivered, but he had no words.  None were needed, as the reason for his selection was clear to all of us: just months before he had made a decision to accept Christ into his heart, and his ornament choice reflected the gratitude he had for his newly personal Savior.

I’ll never forget the importance of that moment or his decision.  It was a Christmas memory I’ll forever hold in my heart, and it reminded me of why it’s so crucial to make Jesus the center of our home.

Now for Lisa’s giveaway. She says:

I think I’ve got a great one! :)  I’m giving away BOTH of my books plus an adorable lunch tote in a beautiful green and cream and chocolate brown. It includes a container with a lid (in a separate bottom compartment), 3 divider inserts, and is made of lead-free, vinyl-free fabric and is water-resistant.  It insulates hot and cold food for up to 4 hours and would be PERFECT to monogram for a gift or for yourself. :)

Okay ladies…to be entered to win Lisa’s prize tell us your most memorable Christmas, or simply say “I’m in!”. And if you haven’t commented on all the days so far, click around and get caught up. You may just win the Grand Prize!!!

Memory-making Blessings,

  1. I think this year I’m going to start a new tradition with my kids… The twelve days of Christmas (After Christmas) In Cuba where my family is from the celebration of the 3 Kings day is Jan 6. So From December 26 to Jan 6 I’m going to work with my girls to do something special for some one else… That way we can tie in our American and Cuban traditons :)

  2. My most memorable Christmas is when I was 6 years old (40 years ago) and in the hospital for Christmas, with my broken right leg in traction. The nurses and my family made it a very special Christmas.

  3. My most memorable Christmas would be the year I met my husband. We got engaged January 4th, so this was only a few weeks before. He wanted us to get a special ornament to give to one another as our Christmas tradition. Now we just buy one special ornament each Christmas. But looking at the ornaments is like looking at our lives together : )

  4. My favorite Christmas memory is the Christmas pagaent of my 6 years in grade school. It was the most awesome pagaent every year. Now to get in the Christmas spirit every year, I put on some good old Christmas music, close my eyes and revisit those days. Thank you for the giveaway.

  5. I love the Christmas season and it would be too hard to pick a favorite so I’m just going to say I’m in.

  6. Three years ago we went to Disney over Christmas. I missed seeing all the extended family. But it was so much fun. My Dad died the next year, but we will always have those memories of him at Disney. He had to get around in a Jazzee but still got on some of the roller coasters.

  7. So many Christmases hold so many memories! Like Renee, above, I fell in love with “Dancerina” My dad hid the wrapped box in the corner of the living room, and when all the presents were open, I was heartbroken she wasn’t there (though trying hard not to show it!),. Then my dad said “What’s that in the corner?” Just like in “A Christmas Story” (the movie). I loved that doll!!

Christmas with 3 of my 4 sons grown is even more special in some ways than when they were little and I would pile presents under the tree. They appreciate family time together, and we always feel very close as a family on Christmas morning. There is just something special about the shared memories. I can’t wait! : )

  8. My best Christmas was the first one I celebrated after accepting Christ as my Savior! It was the most joyous Christmas I’ve ever had.

My second most memorable Christmas was when I was only 10. I saw a beautiful ballerina doll in the window of a store that was on my way to school. She had a tiara that when turned would make the doll do a pirouette. I would look at that doll every day and tell my parents how much I wanted her. One day before Christmas the doll was gone out of the window. I went into the store and the clerk told me that she was purchased and that they did not have any more in stock. I was heartbroken! I was ecstatic to open that doll on Christmas morning. My parents told me that they had such a hard time not telling me that they bought it when they saw how crushed I was after I learned she was no longer at the store!

  9. My most memorable Christmas was when I was a child. It was the last year that I still believed that Santa brought our gifts. Around 2AM I woke up and decided that I needed to wake my younger sister and that we should go check out the gifts I was sure Santa had left for us. We quietly made our way down the hall and into the living room. My parents had left the lights on the tree lit but no other lights in the room. It was the most magical moment. I don’t remember today what the physical gifts were, but I do remember my little sister and myself getting a blanket and curling up together by the light of the Christmas tree. That memory is the best gift I have ever received for Christmas.

  10. My favorite Christmas memory happened when I was in early elementary school. Our church held the children’s Christmas program on Christmas Eve and during the program I could have sworn I heard jingle bells outside and imagined Santa flying overhead. Sure enough, when we got home, Santa had come and we opened presents!

  11. Every Christmas spent with my family is a memorable Christmas. When my husband I were FIRST married we spent Christmas Eve with my family celebrating Norwegian Christmas (opening gifts Christmas Eve), then flew out to Texas first thing to join his family for their Christmas (opening gifts Christmas morning). We were EXHAUSTED but it was worth it being able to share both our family traditions with each other :)

  12. I posted Dec. 2 at 12:05 p.m. but I was not sure that my email address was included when I posted. I don’t want to miss out on the all 12 days opportunity, so I am reposting.

My most memorable Christmas was definitely not my favorite Christmas, but one of the most meaningful. My mother had just passed away a few days before Christmas. My dad, children and I sat around my sparsley decorated tree wondering how we were going to make it through the holiday – everything seemed so different. We decided to read about the birth of Jesus. Suddenly, out view of the day brightened. We realized it was all about Jesus and not about us or even the pain we were feeling. We began a new tradition of reading the Christmas story before any kind of celebration. It has provided precious memories for the past 10 years.
