Today, meet my friend Lynn Cowell:
Lynn is an author and speaker with Proverbs 31 Ministries.
Her study for teen girls “His Revolutionary Love” empowers girls with self-esteem and confidence leading them to wise decisions.
One of her favorite Christmas traditions is to fill her kitchen with teen girls and teach them to make Christmas treats. It’s a mess but they sure do have fun!
Today on her blog, Lynn will share her favorite ways to invest in her kids with the gift of time. Please stop by; share how you invest in your kids and hear how other moms do as well!
Her Christmas memory:
By today’s standards, I come from a huge family; I’m number seven of eight kids.
For as long as I can remember, my family has had a five man toboggan that we’d strap it to the top of our station wagon.
Now in Iowa, you’ve got to be pretty creative when it comes to finding a spot to sled; corn fields produce much of a thrill!
We did have a couple of good hills that brought some winter fun. My favorite memory of sledding was my last memory of sledding.
My father had been diagnosised with cancer and had been fighting the disease for a long time. As we all pulled on all our gear, we were shocked to see Dad pull on his tan Carthartt jacket.
Mom was none too happy to see him heading out, but I know that my dad saw it for what it was; his last opportunity to celebrate Christmas this way with his family.
I have no idea what my parents gave me that Christmas, but I do remember this one thing. My father gave me the investment of his time and his sense of adventure even when he was fighting for his life.

If time is tight, just say “Hot cocoa!”
See you tomorrow!
My favorite Christmas time outdoor activity is building snowmen.
That is when it snows.
Going for drives looking at the neighbors Houses with all the CHRISTmas lights
Well, it doesn’t happen on Christmas Day but my favorite Christmas outdoor activity is our town’s Christmas parade. I just love taking my sweet little family out to see the parade and just enjoy that special time we have there.
Hot Cocoa!
Jumping in the car with my girls and combing the neighborhoods to look at all of the beautiful decorations =)
My favorite outside activity is walking through the Christmas displays in our area. I also enjoy driving around and seeing how everyone has decorated their homes. In recent years my hometown does a big celebration of the Polar Express with motorized trains and a ride in train down town. They have many of the local businesses stay open late and offer hot cocoa, coffee and some sort of snack for the kiddoes. They have people reading the book and some years they have even given away copies.
I like looking at all the Christmas lights, too. When my girls were younger, they would go out with their dad to try to create the biggest snowman. They made one that was at least 8 feet tall!
We love looking at Christmas lights – my kids are always mesmerized by them!
Hot Cocoa
Our church goes caroling to the elderly who can’t get out and about. I think we are more blessed by them than they are by our “singing”. :) Merry Christmas!
I enjoy driving around to see Christmas lights.
Hot Cocoa : )
Hot cocoa
Caroling around the neighborhood with my kids. It is magical and lots of fun.
Hot Cocoa
We like going through Christmas in the Park that the city puts on. They have hot chocolate and cookies, entertainment and hayrides.
It would have to be going Christmas Caroling to the shut-ins of our church family. We bundle up and go visit each home where a beloved church member has become homebound and can not get out to our weekly church services. We bring them a gift and share some songs with them and always leave feeling more blessed than when we arrived! :)
Looking at lights
Snowman building! Followed by snowball fights. The kids would say sledding. Personally I find that the older I get the more fun it is to make the hot chocolate and sip it while watching the kids freeze to death.
My favorite—we go to Silver Dollar City to enjoy the lights and the fact that in this place Jesus is known and spoken about.
having friends and family over!
Riding to look at Christmas lights while we enjoy coffee/hot chocolate and listen to Christmas music.
Ooooh, yeah… hot cocoa!
My favorite Christmas time outdoors event is ice skating! My husband is from California, so he never did much of it in Minnesota, but once he moved up – it’s always a treat to go ice skating.
Caroling!
