She Makes It Look “Breezy” Giveaway With Marybeth Whalen

Note: Due to a few glitches over the weekend when my site was unavailable, I have decided to leave this post & giveaway up until Wednesday. Also, if you still want to hop on my Facebook study on time & home organization based on my book, click here:

Ever looked at another woman and silently whispered to God, “Uh….I think I’ll take what she’s having, please”.

Yes, on the surface ‘she’ seems to have it all–good looks, a nicer-than-yours home, a solid marriage, better-behaved-than-yours kiddos and that natural knack at living life well with her canned goods alphabetized and never a dvd late fee or missed appointment.

She makes life look like a breeze while you? Well, you feel the whirl winds of life are about to knock you over and blow you completely away!

I’ve been there. I’m still there sometimes. How about you?

When will we ever learn that the grass isn’t greener on the other side? The grass is actually greener where you are careful to place the sprinkler, spread a little Miracle Grow and be intentional to pull your own weeds!

Ariel Baxter has just moved into the neighborhood of her dreams. The chaos of domestic life and the loneliness of motherhood, however, moved with her. Then she meets her neighbor, Justine Miller.

Justine ushers Ariel into a world of clutter-free houses, fresh-baked bread, homemade crafts, neighborhood playdates, and organization techniques designed to make marriage better and parenting manageable.

Soon Ariel realizes there is hope for peace, friendship, and clean kitchen counters. But when rumors start to circulate about Justine’s real home life, Ariel must choose whether to believe the best about the friend she admires or consider the possibility that “perfection” isn’t always what it seems to be.

She makes it Look Easy is the latest novel by my close friend & Proverbs 31 writer Marybeth Whalen. And you have a chance to win it, along with some other items that can make your life a bit more of a breeze! Simply leave a comment on this post. The random winner will be announced Monday. The giveaway includes:

~ A signed copy of She Makes it Look Easy

~ A mouse pad/notepad combo for you to use by your computer and make lists or doodle.:-)

~ A fun ink pen.

~ A set of sticky notes with a matching notepad for your purse or to place by the phone.

~ A $10 gift card to TJ Maxx/Marshalls– a place where I always find cool organizing & office-y stuff.

So, for your comment. Although the book is about comparisons, the lesson of the story is how to be content with your life and stop wishing you were someone else. So, no comments about what areas of your life you wish were more like someone else’s. Instead, let’s be a little goofy.

If you could have a different name, what name would you choose? We fondly refer to this our “Panera name”.

Yes— I have friends who like to leave a different name with the worker at Panera Bread for their order. That way, instead of hearing “Brenda?” when their sandwich is up. They stroll over when they hear the employee call out “Seneca?”  :-)

Maybe it isn’t an exotic or regal name, but what is another name you like?

  1. When I was little, my pretend name was Jamie. I had never told my daughter about my pretend name, but one day I heard her pretending to be Jamie, too! So, if I had the chance to have another name, it would have to be Jamie!!

  2. My given name is Elizabeth which was my grandmothers name so I would never want to change that as I love her so much but I also love the name (Grace) so for this I would like to say Grace ?

  3. My biological name is Laura. My parents called me Laurie growing up. As I have gotten older I changed the spelling to Lori. I would of loved to be called lori Beth. Beth is my middle name.

  4. When I was growing up, I wished my parents would’ve named me Linda or Susan. Now that I’m an adult, I like the names Kate or Emma.

  5. What a great question! I like it because a couple of years ago, my family chose a new name (first and middle) for me and I legally changed it. I hated my name, to me it was synonymous with the abuse my mother dished out for the first 46 years of my life. So my name went from Kimberly Dawn McCann to Emma Stormy Clayton McCann. That’s what is now on my birth certificate. Emma means whole and complete so that’s why my family chose it!

  6. I’ve always loved the name Julia. And I would have people call me “Jules.” I have 3 little boys, but if I’d had a girl, this is what I would have named her too!

  7. I always wanted to be Elizabeth, NOT Lisa… My life is nothing to envy…same problems as anyone else, but I don’ t remember WANTING someone else’s life… God gave me mine, and I do try to feel blessed, but I do have my days when I think ELIZABETH might have a better time…

  8. I really do like my name and have never really had the desire for a different one but I also liked the name Megan so that’s now our daughter’s name.

  9. I am a short, shy little redheaded mama to five. I always wanted to be like Anne of Green Gables. Ironically, she always wanted to be Cordelia Fitzgerald. I would love to be “Anne with an ‘e’.” :0)

  10. What a great giveaway theme Karen! Loved your question– so original!! I have to agree with those who say they are content with their own names. But I guess if I had to switch it would be Meredith or Elizabeth, which are both, incidentally, very close to my own name. :) I do love having a good ole southern double name. Hated it as a kid, now I’ve grown to love my southern heritage and the name that goes with it!

  11. My parents picked my name because they liked that it was unusual (they had very short simple names…Ron and Jan.) I love being different, and have heard other unusual names I like, but I can’t think of any right now. I came up with several when we were naming babies…wish I could remember them (we ultimately compromised on rather simple Bible names).

  12. I have a pretty ordinary first AND last name already so it surprises me that I would choose another plain yet I think classy name….Mary Katherine

  13. I’d uesd to call myself Christine Wilkerson. No idea why, but when I was younger and used to act like I was a TV news anchor, Christine was always the name I used. It’s also my middle name. So if I had another name for myself, it would be Christine. I don’t know anyone named that, so I like it.

  14. When I was young, back in the 60’s, it seemed that everyone was Debbie, Patty, Linda or Susan. I always wanted to be a Linda, as no one was Karen (now there are 3 Karens in our weekly Bible study and there are only 6 ladies!). I always liked the name, Margo….that’s what I’d want to be.
(we named our daughter Jennifer after my mom, Lillian Jennie. Now I’d name her Jenna).

  15. Maggie would be my Panera name!

My mother named me Laurinda Jacqueline after my grandfather, Jack Lawrence. Jacqui is hard to spell; I got Jackie, Jacquie, Jaquie, Jacky, and even Jackquie. Worse, it rhymed with “Wacky”. When I was 10, I announced that my name was “Linda”., but it didn’t stick.

I always wished my mom had named me Margaret, a name which had been passed down from mother to daughter for generations. When I had a daughter followed by four sons, I swore if the next baby was a girl I would name her Margaret, and legally change my name to Jacqueline Margaret. She was, and I did!

PS: my mother was not amused.v

  16. I used my favorite girl names for my four daughters, so I think I would choose Olivia. I think it’s more elegant than my name, which I do like, too.

  17. I have always adored the name Grace. that is what I would choose for my name. :) ~Blessings!

  18. What a clever idea! I have enjoyed reading everyone’s new names.
Let’s see, I may have to go with Gina. I am half Italian and I love all that being Italian is and Gina sounds soooooo Italian. Maybe my full name could be Gina Marie..

  19. I’ve always loved the name Rachel…I was often called it
by mistake growing up. Now that I’m all grown up, it’s actually nice to one of the few ‘Aprils’ around!!!

  20. My best friend and I used to do this when we were kids! Mom would drop us at the mall, and Angie and Terri became Whitney and Melanie. She actually ended up naming her daughter Whitney, but I had two boys, so no Melanie here. My younger son’s name is Hayden, however, so I’ll go with that if I can’t be Melanie..
