Drum roll…and now for our interview with Shari.

1. What prompted you to write, Help Me Jesus, I Have Nothing to Wear!?

This book is a re-launch of ‘Good Girls Don’t Have to Dress Bad’. Because it is a fashion book, it’s important that we keep up with trends so it doesn’t become ‘dated’. Zondervan thought it best to retitle and recover the book along with updating photos and shopping guides. I’m especially excited about the new title because we found that it is a fabulous book to give as a gift. Women were hesitant to give ‘Good Girls Don’t Have to Dress Bad’ as a gift because their friends may think they dressed bad! The new title is a phrase we all might catch ourselves saying from time to time, ‘Help Me Jesus, I Have Nothing to Wear! I’ve heard from many women that they’re giving the book to friends now and we’re all very excited about that!

2. What do you hope this book does for Christian women today when it comes to fashion?

The goal behind this book is to help Christian women have some guidelines when it comes to dressing. Most of us don’t have a clue where to start when it comes to looking our very best in clothes. Through no fault of their own, women are left to the mercy of fashion magazines and store displays to show them how to dress and most of us just don’t look like those models so how can we expect to look like that in clothes?

Shari doing her thing at our She Speaks conference, pointing out how this woman wears her right colors and styles for her uniquely beautiful self. Shari’s book can help you know what looks good on YOUR uniquely beautiful self too! And by the way…the woman is Sandy from Zondervan who is both mine and Shari’s editor. Or is it “both Shari and my editor?” YIKES I’m probably gonna get corrected for improper grammar. And that, folks, is why we have editors!

My heartfelt prayer is to give women direction on how to look remarkable while representing Jesus well. Yes, rules are made to be broken when it comes to clothing but until we know the rules, we don’t even know we’re breaking them! I also believe that if I can free up a woman to feel confident in what she wears, then she can be freed up to pursue the passions that God has given her. So many women never pursue what God has for them because they aren’t confident in their outer appearance. My book helps them gain insight into being a self-assured woman by learning how to dress to reflect their best self.

3. What do you hope this book teaches them about faith and how it relates to fashion?

I hope it reminds women they are beautiful (Psalm 45:11) exactly as they are and that God did NOT make a mistake with them. Whether a woman is thin or fluffy (we don’t call it fat around here!) I hope they realize that beauty is God’s idea and instead of hiding under sloppy clothes or revealing too much of their body with skimpy skirts and low cut tops, Jesus girls can be confident wearing clothes that fit and flatter.

4. You have a fabulous giveaway, tell us about it!

I am giving away one copy of my new book and a set of color swatches!

I will personally analyze the winner of the color swatches by having her send me a headshot so I can determine what colors are best for her. The best colors for someone are based on their hair, skin and eye color. For your readers who want a color analysis, they can get an online analysis at www.ColorEnalysis.com or visit me at www.FashionMeetsFaith.com.

As a special bonus, I’d like to invite anyone who comments here to join us for a special webinar on Tuesday, September 16th at 9pm EST, where we’ll be discussing fashion tips for Fall and also have a special guest on inner beauty. If you’d like to join us, please email [email protected] we’d love to have you join us!

Some final words from the fashion guru herself, Shari…

Hi beauties, I’m thrilled to be here on the ONE AND ONLY amazing Karen Ehman’s blog to bring you information on fashion and faith! I appreciate Karen for allowing me the opportunity to speak into the lives of her readers about the sometimes delicate topic of fashion in regard to Jesus girls.

When God first gave me the idea of speaking on the topic of fashion and faith I prayed about it for seven years…yes, you heard me right…SEVEN YEARS! Though I was a little slow in acting on what I knew God told me to do, I wanted to make sure I didn’t hear Him wrong. Fashion and FAITH? Why yes, ladies, that’s what I get to speak and write about. And almost 10 years later, He’s still directing me on the same path.

To help you understand a little better about what I do, I’m the one who gets to speak at women’s conferences and tell ladies that they might need a new bra because the one they have just isn’t working any longer (cause they’re hanging just a little too low!)

I also get to teach middle school and high school girls that how they dress reveals so much more than their bodies…it reveals their character. I also give guidance to women with low body confidence and instruct them on this sensitive issue by providing tips on dressing that change the way they see themselves.

The world can be a harsh place because people judge us simply by what we’re wearing, without us ever saying a word, so by teaching women to feel confident in how they dress can actually change the way others perceive us AND change the way WE see ourselves.

I hope you’ll visit me at www.FashionMeetsFaith.com.

  6. I would love to win either. Would really enjoy learning what colors suit me best, and would love to have a mother/daughter book discussion with my two young adult trendsetters!

  7. I would love to win this book to help me figure out what to wear on my body. I am fluffy and certain areas of me are larger than most women. I hate it, but I try to wear stuff that flatters and makes me feel good. I also have a 10 year old girl who looks like a bag of skittles when she leaves the house and doesn’t always have the greatest idea of what is appropriate to wear. Having a book for her and I to share that will help with this would be awesome.

  8. This would be AWESOME to win – I love fashion and always think women look so pretty – but can’t put an outfit together for myself that looks the same way! HAHA! Plus, it’s all about my kids right now! :o)

  9. I am desperate need of a look! After four kids and being tall and not skinny to beat, I have a hard time looking nice while still caring for my kids. I keep saying someday I will figure it out.

  10. This is an area that I absolutely love but have an extremely hard time with. I struggle with looking stylish yet modest and age appropriate. Also, I struggle with what styles and colors work best for my body type and skin tones. I would absolutely love advice from an expert. I have anxiety every time I have to shop and try things on. It would be nice to tie this area into my spiritual walk and invite Jesus to bring peace and joy in this area.

  11. Thank you for sharing a way to help others with fashion! Love it!!!! I find it difficult at times to put together outfits that I feel is flattering. It is hard for me to find styles that is reflective of my age, size and personality. I am what I think of as an inbetweener……. mid 50’s, fun, classy but not matronly! I feel you brought Shari to my life at a perfect time! God’s timing is awesome! I love how he allows you to serve your readers in so many ways!

    Blessiings to you,
    Kathy

  12. great book to win and the colors with the help of this wonderful, talented lady would be the best gift ever:) I am in a rut and the help would be so much appreciated. Thank you for this opportunity.

  13. I was at lunch with friends just yesterday and someone asked me, “So, how are things?” I responded at length by mentioning how things were with my kids, my husband and even my dog…but I forgot to mention myself. My friend responded by saying, “That’s great…but what’s going on with you…how are you doing?” It shook me…because I didn’t know how to answer her question. I haven’t thought about myself in quite some time…too long. I keep telling my children to do one bold, positive thing a day to step out of their comfort zone. This is my bold step for today…I’m stepping out of my comfort zone and beginning to find the answer to her question…I could use a little help.

  14. I would love, love, love to win this. I am always struggling to find what looks best on me. I want to dress age appropriate yet stylish. Seems like the stores only cater to teens! I am tired of buying things only to have them languish in the closet because I bought them on sale! Lol! Thanks for the giveaway.

  15. I would love to work with Shari for several reasons. My grandmother who is now in heaven was a professional seamstress out of necessity. Her mother died when she was 12 and she had to quit school and raise five younger siblings. She had the greatest impact on my life. She always made my clothes and they were always perfect. I have a sense of fashion but I also want to please the Lord by purchasing the items that can be added to my wardrobe and not have a closet of clothes I don’t wear. I do like clothes and have a closet full of them, yet recently have been convicted about being aware of what I need versus what I want. I am a newlywed after nine years of being single after a very ugly divorce. As I move forward professionally I want to present my self in a manner that is professional and stylish. An empty nester, newlywed and a women who wants to please the Lord in all I do. My grandmother was a woman who had nothing but gave everything willingly. She always said, “No matter how much money you have you can always have a clean house and look your best.” Coming from a woman who literally had nothing. Yet that need affected her joy. People were more important than things to her. I want to follow in her footsteps. As a grandmother of three granddaughters it is important to me to be intentional in their lives. I want to pass along the issue of modesty, knowing this can be accomplished and still look stylish. I want to be able to pass on what I learn not only to my granddaughters but to others who struggle financially, finding ways for them to feel good about how they look. Thank you for your consideration.

  16. Oooo, I’m excited about this book and webinar. I am a mom of three daughters; 11, 5, & 7 months. I have never been really good with fashion. I want to be but I just need a little help. I am a little run down and have been discouraged with having a baby, two kids in school, waiting to see what God has in store for our family this year as hubby retires from military. It’s been a rough year and I’m working on getting myself on the right track. Working on weight loss and dressing so I feel confident. I have looked it the colors before and would to be analyzed. Thsnks for chace. Can’t wait to get that book.

  17. I would love the color swatches. I have your book & love it! It would be nice to have your professional opinion on my colors though!

  18. This is so much fun! Though I absolutely love clothes and SHOES, I think that as I grow older, I tend to buy frumpier clothes that don’t fit well, and I tend to keep clothes way past their ‘in’ point. I want to still look pretty and dignified when I dress and not look 20 years older. It is hard to find that balance. I would love to see what my ‘color palette’ is. I know what people tend to tell me I look good in, but it is nice to know from an expert. :)
I also have a pre-teen daughter that wants to dress older so badly. I have been able to tone her down and make her realize that some clothing is just inappropriate for ALL ages, but she still doesn’t want to wear the cutesy clothes she used to wear. In fact, can you believe at 10 years old there are already little girls shaving their legs! Oh my goodness! I couldn’t shave my legs until I was 13 or 14 between middle and high school. I guess we were old fashioned where I grew up.

Have fun! We should all care what we look like when we leave the house. I am ready to get my ‘bling’ back on.

    Blessings to all,
    KK

  19. I have two colors in my closet….black and white. My best friend is constantly giving me a hard time about it. I just don’t feel comfortable trying to coordinate colors so I stay safe.
All of that being said, there is a young mom in our church that I think would benefit from the book. She is a beautiful lady she just doesn’t know how to dress to bring out that beauty. Although I am one to talk :)

  20. We all can use advice on how to look our best and be confident. I would love to have this book for myself and to encourage others.
