Fall Decorating Giveaway

But before we tackle Christmas, let me ask you. What does fall look like around your house?

Our table, complete with the pumpkin made from nylons that Mitch crafted in his first grade homeschool academy.

Have you visited a pumpkin patch? Brought in some fall leaves? Scattered gourds in a basket or mini-pumpkins in a bowl?

Found the Happy Harvest sign on clearance at TJ Maxx. (I love that place!) and the basket of Indian corn and gourds is from our local farmer’s market.

Farmer’s markets are also great places to pick up fall mums that will stay looking colorful even during fall frosts. Here are some I grabbed the other day at a local one for only $8!

Tell us today what fall decorating you do around your house. You could win the following:

~ Three decorative signs to spruce up your home. They say Faith, Hope & Love.

~Some Godiva chocolate truffles in ice cream shoppe flavors.

~A signed copy of my book A Life That Says Welcome: Simple Ways to Open Your Heart & Home to Others. It has tons of tips for decorating on a shoe-string budget and using items in fall to make your home cozy.

So tell us….what is fall like at your place?

  3. I love Fall! I have a fall wreath, mums, haystacks, and cornstalks at the entrance of our home, and a pumpkin spice candle that burns whenever I’m home. We just moved to a new home a few months ago, and I can’t find my Fall decorations box in the storage room!!! So inside decor doesn’t look too much like Fall yet!!! I do have a small bowl of candy corn in the kitchen :) The kids gobble it up quickly, so I’m on the 3rd bag so far!! Getting our pumpkins and gourds this weekend at our local Apple Festival :)

  4. I just spent a whopping $3 on discounted pieces to spruce up my Fall wreath. Looks great, and kept me from parting with $85 for one I had seen at a local florist. :) I added two 50cent fall picks to a glass candle holder, which looks like I bought it at an interior design store. I printed a monogram template of my last initial, & painted it on a real pumpkin. Then I painted a fun design on another pumpkin (with polkadots) to please the kids. I have a few inexpensive fall things for the mantle, my pumpkin spice candle, and a garland ring to go around the base of a large candle globe. It’s just the little touches that come together to signal the season. BUT–my yard needs help!!! I really need color. My flagpole is broken, I have no flowering plants, no scare crows, etc. I need help, and don’t really know how to make it work, while my neighbors’ yards look fantastic. Hmm….

  5. I usually decorate my mantle and dining room table with fall items such as a ceramic pumpkins, orange, tan and red candles and other fall decorations we have. I decorate my front porch with pumpkins, indian corn and mums.

  7. Hi Karen! I put a fall wreath on my door and I have a pumpkin on the front porch.
I don’t have any mums yet but I did buy some pansies yesterday to replace my petunias that have died.
I would love to win this prize!

    Blessings,
    Janet W.

  8. Fall decorating has been put on the back burner for right now, (bummed) but more important family issues have to be dealt with at this time. But I do plan on decorating for Christmas!!! PLanning ahead!!!!

  9. There are tons of ideas I would love to use, but my budget never allows! The times of year when I have extra just don’t mesh with fall decorating… So, a few harvest scented candles have to do! On the bright side, my home is decorated with a lot of autumn colors anyway!

  10. My husband has been at grad school the past two years, so our decorations are simple and economical, but I love them as much as if they were worthy of a BH&G photo. :) I love to buy a bag of mini pumkins to sprinkle around the house and one particularly large one to be a centerpiece.. To that we add a growing collection of leaves that my little ones find on our walks, and scatter the,m around the pumpkins. I have an fragrance warmer that spreads the smell of apple cinnamon throughout the house and I love to turn on Josh Groban’s song “Thankful” to complete the cozy feeling.

  11. We carve pumpkins as a family, take pictures of each kid with theirs, and keep them on our porch til they are too rotten to enjoy!

  12. Pumpkins on the porch, Fall welcome wreath on the door, fall silk flower arrangement on china cabinet, and spice smelling candel in the kitchen. Love Fall! (and tons of leaves all over the yard!)

  13. Love fall – the colors, the smells, the beautiful weather!!! I don’t decorate a whole lot but I am enjoying my mums by the front porch and changed my little garden flag to pumpkins. I bought some new fall scented candles from my favorite candle store and my house smells so yummy! Always love to see your seasonal decorations Karen!

  14. I’ve been inspired by my Pinterest browsing to try new things with my autumn decorations: a heart full of pumpkins, a mantle display of candles and mini-pumpkins, grape vines, and leaves, and small touches of fall all around my downstairs.

  15. When I lived far from my midwestern roots, I bought colorful garlands of fall leaves to decorate my home. Even though I am back in my home state, I still love to decorate for fall. I love to add pumpkins and gourds, both real and life-like, little scarecrows in my potted plants and autumn wreaths. I add Halloween decorations later in October, then remove them for Thanksgiving and leave the fall decorations up until I start Christmas decorating.

It’s so fun to decorate and add some new temporary color to the home. It’s so funny you posted this today, ’cause that’s what I am doing today – decorating with my fall leaves and some Halloween decorations.

I would love to win the prizes. The signs are sweet, the chocolates heavenly, and I would LOVE a copy of your book. Thanks for the chance to win!

  16. I just do a little simple fall decorating. Dining room table has a table runner quilted by my husbands grandma w/a tin pumpkin & leaf candles on it, Homeschool table w/a little brown tree & fake leaves. Entertainment center has a fall scented candle w/a pumpkin topper that says “Give Thanks” and leaves, Front window sill has small scarecrows & gourds and the window has leaves & scarecrow faces that my kids decorated, Front Porch has a little hanging scarecrow and pumpkins from our trip to the pumkin patch.

  17. I love fall & everything that goes with it. I have indian corn & different squash & wheat arranged in a bowl. I will also scatter pumpkins around the house. This weekend I will go and pick out some mums to go on my front porch. Thank you for the giveaway & your great ideas.

  18. We planted pumpkin seeds for the first time and the kids are so excited watching them grow. Can’t wait to decorate the porch with them as soon as they are ready to harvest. I also love decorating with gourds and fall scented candles in the house. Outside on our porch we have a grapevine wreath wrapped with orange lights, fall leaf wreath and a hay bale with scarecrows sitting upon it. Just love the fall!!!! Thank you, Karen, for all of your wonderful ideas!!

  19. Fall weather makes me want to cook and have people over. That means that in the fall I tend to update the decor in my dining room — or help it recover. This time around I’ve replaced a trunk in front of our large window with a scroll work plant stand and arranged crystal candle holders and oil lamps on the buffet.

  20. I don’t decorate so much inside, but outside my husband and I had planted numerous maple trees that show beautifully with their fall leaves of orange, yellow and red. Over the years they have grown and are now fairly big trees. My sister in law brought me a mum, so that adorns my front porch this year.
Inside, I enjoy fragrance, so I have scented candles burning. I also bake, so I have the scent of pumpkins bars wafting throughout my house today.
I have never been a seasonal decorator, but I would love to learn more. Now that I have the time, it could be a pleasant task to undertake.
Happy Fall!! Your home looks so inviting!

  21. I mainly decorate with the Fall Harvest theme…..but I do put out my collection of pictures taken of the kids in their costumes each year. It’s fun to look back at all those cute memories.

  22. I like to put some hay, a scarecrow, pumpkin, and mums in my front yard. I have some fall themed decorations I use in the house but really need to do soemthing with my mantle!
