one-sentence-eulogyWelcome to those who have clicked your way over after reading my Proverbs 31 Ministries devotion Your One Sentence Eulogy.  To read the devotion, click here…but be sure to come back to enter the giveaway in honor of my new book that launches today!

TODAY IS THE DAY!!

My newest book, Listen, Love, Repeat: Other-Centered Living in a Self-centered World is now available in stores and online. There is also a DVD Bible study series with workbook that accompanies the book!

Here is a short description:

Newest book by New York Times bestselling author Karen Ehman! Our culture is self-obsessed – in our schedules, relationships, and especially online. (Can you say selfie?) But in this near-narcissism, people are less content than in decades past. Why? Because we forgot the joy that comes from putting others first. Doing so requires us to live alert, listening for “heart drops,” hints from those in our lives who need a helping hand or a generous dose of encouragement. Living alert lifts our own spirits, showing us that blessing others blesses us even more.

Listen, Love, Repeat offers biblical teaching and suggests doable actions that are simple, heart-tugging, sentimental, even sneaky and hilarious. This message:

• Presents scriptural examples of those who lived alert, including Jesus, who noticed those who least expected to be seen.

• Gives creative ideas for showing love to friends and family, and suggests practical ways to reach out to the lonely, the marginalized, the outcast, and the odd duck. Additionally, it helps you comfort the grieving, showing what you can do when you don’t know what to say.

• Provides inspiration for blessing the “necessary people” in your life, those often-overlooked souls who help you get life done every day, and teaches you how to hug a porcupine by genuinely loving the hard-to-love.

Now for the giveaways!

GIVEAWAY to celebrate Karen Ehman's new book Listen, Love, Repeat: Other-Centered Living in a Self-Centered World.

In my Proverbs 31 devotion, I mentioned two items I have in my kitchen–my big red cast iron soup pot and my “scatter kindness” sign.

Well, I am giving away one soup pot, three signs, and 5 copies of the book–that means nine different winners!

The signs are made by a new friend I met when she was in the audience for the filming of the Bible study sessions for the book. You can check out Audrey’s fabulous work at The Cowboy’s Wife Sign Company. (Head to her Facebook page and give her a “like”?)

And now, I’m sharing what often goes in my big red pot–my recipe for cheesy corn chowder!

Cheesy Ham & Corn Chowder

Hands-down my family’s favorite soup. I make it at least two or three times a month and when I do, their friends come running!

In a large pot combine:

4 cups chicken stock (or 4 cups water with bouillon cubes to taste)

4 cups chopped, peeled Yukon Gold potatoes

1 chopped onion

1/2 cup chopped celery

Cook, covered, over medium heat for 30 minutes or until potatoes are tender. Then add:

3 tablespoons butter

1–2 cups finely chopped leftover ham

1 1/2 cups leftover corn

2 cans cream of chicken soup

1 1/2 cups sharp cheddar cheese

Just before serving, add:

8 ounces sour cream.

Thin with a little milk if needed. Stir well. Serves 8–10.

If you’d like to enter to win the soup pot, a “scatter kindness” sign, or a copy of the book, there are two options.

First, If you don’t have social media, please tell us your favorite image below and also tell someone about the book. You could even forward the Proverbs 31 devotion from today or send them the link to this post. Old fashioned talking face-to-face works too. ;-)

OR, if you are a social media person, please share one of the images below somewhere–on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or Pinterest and do the following:

1. Use the hashtag #listenloverepeat in your description

2. Link to or at least mention the website listenloverepeatbook.com

3. Then come back here and tell us in the comments where you shared it and which image you chose.

We’ll pick the winners and announce them on Monday. And just so ya know, my favorite image below is the one of my daughter holding her goddaughter’s hand. So. Much. Cuteness.

  1. I posted the “Use your ordinary life for God’s extraordinary purposes”
And I will be putting it as my phone background as well! Thank you for the devotional:)

  2. What an incredible message! I love the Scatter Kindness sign! I am going to make a paper sign to put up on my garage door. What an important reminder as we walk out the door! I sent this message to all three of my teen girls. We encourage our girls to be leaders by walking into a room saying “Here I am!” But I realize that all three of my girls are the ones that search for the others that need encouraging words. I realize that I worried that they weren’t the first one. You spoke God’s word into my heart today by making me see a different perspective, that they are actually doing so much more by seeing and reaching out to those in need. Thank You!

  3. I shared it on Pinterest, Facebook and Instagram. I loved the pic and quote with the turquoise hand mixer and the red bowl. =)

  4. Not sure why I am not seeing my post, so will try again. I shared the mixer image on FB. I don’t know anything on or about the # thing. I realized as I was commenting that providing food to those with a need, crisis, or loss is one of ways to minister. Being widowed myself, this has been my area of ministering right now. I thank my mother for having been a wonderful example of hospitality and generousity.

  5. I shared the mixer image and link on Facebook. I don’t do/know,how to do the whole # thing!!! I just realized now as I am commenting here, that I tend to bake/cook/share food for folks when there is a need- health needs, shut-ins, losses, etc. Lately, I have been sharing visits and food with widowed folks. I have been widowed for over 25 years, and I seem to be drawn to ministering to those folks right now. My mother set a great example for this sharing and hospitality!

  6. Love this book so much just shared on my Facebook spreading the love ?? so happy to be giving this book to my GF , this book is what the world needs right now to make us love and spread kindness daily and to love others and most importantly listening to their hearts, their heart drops, and making this world a better place

  7. Your devotional touched my heart after hearing of Tabitha’s description of “doing good to all.” I would like to be remembered as someone who cared for others more than the needs I might have or desire. God wants those who love and give to others to bring light into this dark world.I’d love to win a copy of your new book, Listen, Love, Repeat. It will give me more encouragement to take time to be with others and meet their needs.

  8. Shared “Scattered Kindness” on Pinterest. What a great reminder how to live each day as Tabitha did!

Thank you for your words of encouragement and I will be adding this book to my list of “Books to Read”

  9. Oh…forgot to mention I love the image of the trailer and the words,” If there’s room in your heart you’ll make room in your home.” ;)
We just moved our trailer to my daughter’s home, so we can have a place to stay while we visit with our daughter and two awesome grandkids. They have recently moved from our home to a ‘next door’ state and we miss them a lot! It was like having an empty next twice!
Since the kids’ dad passed away a few years ago, my husband and I have been their biggest fans and support! I had to smile as I saw the image of that trailer…although ours is a bit bigger. ;)
    Bless you!

  10. Building relationships is so important. We all have a story; God allows us to experience circumstances in order to use them to help others. For this reason, I chose to share the picture with the encouragement to use our ordinary lives for God’s extraordinary purposes.

  11. Thanks for this today Karen! Will be looking where I may scatter a little more kindness around…
Congratulations on your new book! Can’t wait to read it.

  13. I shared your auqa mixer on my Facebook page because we can all share God in our every day lives. Sometimes we need to be reminded of this!

  14. It is difficult to pick just one favorite image, they are all beautiful and meaningful. Having to pick one, I would have to say my favorite is the first one with the hand mixer and ordinary batter being made into something extraordinary. How true that we can use our ordinary lives that we have been blessed with for God’s extraordinary purposes. Maybe even once or more than once a day. This picture and quote both hold a lot of meaning. I enjoyed today’s devotion as well! Scatter kindness is a wonderful motto to adopt and a simple task to carry out.

  15. Thank you for the devotion today! I sure want to be known for scattering kindness! :)

  17. Loved the “Jesus did the right things” quote! Saved that to a women’s ministry board on my Pinterest. Great words to remember! So many of us think we need to do everything or be everything, when really we only need to be and do the RIGHT things- what God is calling us to. Don’t have a Dutch oven, would love to win one:)

  18. I shared the first image about allowing God to use our ordinary for His extraordinary across many social media channels, including Pinterest, FB, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn. Lovely!

  19. “Use your ordinary life for God’s extraordinary purposes.” Scatter Kindness <3
Pinned it. and shared on Instagram.

  20. “If there is room in your heart, there is room in your home.” is the image I shared on Pinterest. Such a good reminder for me . . . I can focus on how small our apartment is and feel like I can’t invite a bunch of people over, or I can open my heart and extend my home without apologies or shame. Thank you!
