It’s Day 2 of 12 Days of Christmas Giveaways! If you’re just joining in, be sure to start at Day 1 here.

Today is a bittersweet day in our series. One of my guests in this series in 2017 was Wynter Pitts, author and founder of For Girls Like You, a resource ministry for tween girls and their parents. Sadly, Wynter passed away suddenly in July of 2018 leaving behind a husband and four daughters. Her passing was an unexpected shock that left many family and friends devastated. However, Wynter’s husband Jonathan has determined to trust God despite this tragedy and today, I get to introduce you to their oldest daughter Alena. A budding actress and singer, you may recognize her from her role in the movie The War Room. I have asked her to share one of her favorite memories of her mom during the holidays.

Here’s Alena…

I’ll never forget the holidays with my mom over the years. We were alike in so many ways and one of the things that made us most similar was our love for sleeping. It’s pretty embarrassing to share the amount of time we would spend taking naps together over Christmas break but for both of us it was super refreshing. She was an introvert and so am I. She enjoyed being around people during the holidays but she would need time to refuel just like I do. You could always count on one of us to be hidden somewhere alone, or both of us together, buried underneath a warm fuzzy blanket. I imagine her in heaven under a fuzzy blanket even now, enjoying her rest with the Lord. In honor of her, I’ll be taking plenty of naps this holiday season. And I’ll take some moments alone too, so I can refresh my soul. Hope these resources might help you do the same as you take some time to replenish your soul over the holidays. ~ Alena

Alena Pitts

Alena Pitts is a 15-year-old actress, author and vocalist. The Kendrick Brothers’ WAR ROOM marked Alena’s professional acting debut and launched Alena headfirst into the spotlight at the age of eleven. Shortly after, Alena started on a new journey and co-authored a three-book fictional series aptly titled, Lena In The Spotlight (Zonderkids, 2017). The books are written with her mother, Wynter Pitts, author and founder of For Girls Like You Magazine. Though having experienced unbelievable success, Alena’s journey has not come without loss. She tragically and unexpectedly lost her mother on July 24th 2018 at the age of fourteen. Though heartbroken, she is not without hope and is using Wynter’s passing from death to life as an opportunity to share the hope and love of God in Jesus through her voice and her writing. Alena is the oldest of four sisters, Kaitlyn (12) and twins Camryn and Olivia (10). She and her family reside in Franklin, TN. She enjoys all things music and competitive volleyball. 1. I didn’t learn to appreciate how much effort my parents put in to making our family Christmas spectacular until I was older, looking back now one of my favorite memories is I always would leave carrots outside for the reindeer and cookies for Santa. My wonderful dad would go out and cut chunks/teeth marks out of the carrots so I knew the reindeer had enjoyed their treat!

  2. Some of my favorite Christmas memories are the week my grandma would take off work and we would make candies for her co-workers and our family. Today I continue to make her candies with the help of my friends to share with others. The time together is so precious.

  3. I was raised with my grandparents and every year they tried to make Christmas so special. My grandpa and I would go pick out a tree and get it flocked, then we would pick it up together, take it home, put on Martina McBride Christmas music and decorate the tree together. Such a special time and something I’ll always remember.

  4. My favorite holiday memory was on Christmas Eve my grandparents would invite Santa Claus over to their house and he would show up with bells and a bag of gifts. My cousins and I would get to tell him what we wanted for Christmas and we would receive a gift from him. His visit always made Christmas special because it made Santa Claus believable and real to us.

  5. Every Christmas my family from both sides get together and celebrate.. so many memories have been made over the years ??

  6. Going to the beach house in South Carolina and getting in the car with my sisters and mom and driving down the island to look at all the lights.. then after watching Christmas movies all night drinking hot coco and listening to the waves crash on the sand…

  7. My mom and I always wrapped gifts together. She would wrap the gift and I would make fancy ribbons and bows. We were a team!

  8. My favorite memory isn’t just a holiday one. My mom always woke me up for school and had breakfast ready. She either took me to school, watched for the bus, or saw me off when I drove on my own.

  9. My favorite holiday memory is spending time with my great grandma! I miss her so much! I will never forget the time we took her out for Christmas & she got a milkshake from chick-fil-a & she took the top off and spilled it everywhere! haha!

  10. Every year all of the girls in my family (My grandmother, my mom, my 2 aunts, me and my sister) would get together in homemade aprons and we would bake all day long. We would make 6 different cookies, caramel peppermint popcorn, whoopie pies, 4 different pies and so much other yummy treats. It’s something that we’ve always done and will continue to do. It’s a time for all of us girls to spend quality time, listening to Christmas music, laughing and catching up with each other.

  11. I remember my grandpa’s love of the sand tart cookies my grandma baked. He would invite me to sit on his lap at the kitchen table, and together we would dunk our cookies into his cup of black coffee and eat them.
