Day 4: Favorite Christmas Decoration

Our day four guest is a new friend of mine, Andrea Brouwer, also known as 31 Girl at Home. She is a wife to Jason, mother to Abigail and Caleb, a daughter, sister, caregiver, friend, mentor, dreamer, and most importantly believer in the One True King. She is also a DIY and lifestyle expert. (You’ll want to be sure to follow her on Instagram. ) And now, welcome Andrea!

As a DIY project lover, I love to decorate, especially at the holidays. Besides the nativity that my mother-in-law bought for me piece by piece over the years, I’d have to say my favorite Christmas decorations are our Christmas lights.

My goal for our house has always been to make it a home, and there is nothing better during the holidays than dimming the lights and letting the twinkle of the Christmas lights give your home that magical glow.

For today’s quick question, tell us what your favorite holiday decoration is and also why. Is it an heirloom nativity? A vintage snowman? A lovely tree topper? Answer and you might win my giveaway!

Day 4 Giveaway

Thanks Andrea! For day four, Andrea is giving away a set of three Plant Therapy Holiday Essential Oil Blends and an Opal House Essential Oil Diffuser. To enter, simply answer today’s question below in the comments section. And remember, if you want to be entered to win the grand prize, you must comment on all 12 days!

Hello! I am Andrea and I am the gal behind 31 Girl at Home! I am wife to Jason, mother to Abigail and Caleb, daughter, sister, caregiver, friend, mentor, dreamer, and most importantly believer in the One True King! I started my home decor journey on Instagram as a creative outlet to share our DIY home improvement projects, ideas on how to make your house a home, and other lifestyle content.  It is amazing what can happen when you completely surrender something over to God. My life, marriage, and job are three beautiful examples of that.

  1. Every year we purchase or make an ornament that reflects that year. I love the memories that 34 years of these special ornaments bring. I’ve started making a online record of each one showing a picture and a statement as to why it’s special to share with our kids. It’s a great journey through the years

  2. It’s my Nativity scene. I wrote about this in a previous day. Our granddaughter was 2 whe she was helping me set it up and she called the baby “Jebus”. She is now 14 , and we still pray to the baby Jebus.

  3. I have many favs as I love this season! Lately it’s the red ribbons that I finish the tree with- it completes the decorating and adds color even when the tree isn’t lit up! Always brings me joy to look at

  4. My favorite decorations are the ornaments on the tree. Each year we get a new ornament to reflect something for that year, so it’s always a trip down memory lane decorating the tree.

  5. Several years ago I received a Willow Tree nativity set. Each year it’s placed on our fireplace mantle surrounded by warm white lights . That nativity set is in a place that we see often as we walk through our house. It’s a great visual reminder for me about the true reason for the season. I also have to add that I love putting on the tree a Baby’s First Christmas ornament ; our daughter is 38 and it’s been on the tree every year since she was born.

  6. That’s a hard question as I have several. I’d have to say that it would be the star we top the tree with. It was my parents who have been gone for 21 & 11 years.

  7. My favorite Christmas decorations are the things my son has made and his pictures with Santa through the years.

  8. I love the wreath and swag I got from my grandmother. Also, I have a Snoopy playing piano that is a must every year!

  9. Our stockings. They have changed over the years as the girls have grown up and the tradition of filling them as morphed, but they always hang on the “mantle” Christmas Eve and are found stuffed and leaning on the couch and/or chairs Christmas morning.

  10. My favorite Christmas decoration is a simple ceramic nativity that includes only Mary, Jesus, and two little cherubs. My mother gave it to me years ago, so that is one reason I love it so. I also love it’s simplicity.

  11. I have an angel ornament which i my favorite. Her gown is made from stiffened paper, her head, arms, and wings are resin, and she’s beautiful I went to an ornament exchange and women were fighting over this ornament. I asked the person who bought it where she got it, and I went to the store and bought it. I wanted it, but I wasn’t going to be ugly and participate in the fighting.

  12. My favorite Christmas decoration is our disco ball ornaments. I picked them out as a child and still use them every year.

  13. My favorite decoration is the glitter bulb I made with my husband’s and my names on it. I made it when we were 1st married and it’s a reminder of our love.

  14. My favorite Christmas decoration is my great-grandmother’s nativity scene. My Grandfather built her a manger for it. It’s old and beautiful and I love it.

  15. My favorite focal point in the house is the tree. Nearly all the ornaments hold special memories. They were made by my children or gifts from friends over the years. It provides opportunities to think of each special person in my life.
